So including Woolfenden and our two top goalscorers last season is there anyone else you'd get rid off?
So do you think those 3 are good enough, not being funny but broady and Chappers found themselves starting on the bench quite a few times in the 2nd half of the season, especially broady, so if they struggle in the championship....they sure as hell aint gonna cut it in Prem!! Both deserve a chance but I don't think either will be good enough, good back ups but not starters!! Hope I'm wrong and you obviously think I am but just don't think they are consistently good enough!! They may thrive in the Prem and out of the 2 I think Chaplin is the player with the best chance of kicking on, just have my doubts. Wolfy will get destroyed, too slow and weak!!
Oh and let's not be sooo sarcastic at those with a different point of view to yours.....you know, you can't have a dig at FM and then go on to show sarcasm to someone that has a different point of view to you!! Maybe you could have said ....that's a big call Spanish, why don't you think they will cut it, they are our top scorers after all. A little less condescending!!
Oh and in answer to your question....I didn't say get rid of, you're putting words in my mouth there, I said I don't think they will cut it....decent back ups which we will need. Wolfy I don't think will even be decent backup but he may prove me wrong. I think Cam, Leif, Morsy, Burns and Hirst all should be fine and start, obviously then BJ and Hutch will start. The rest, not good enough but obviously we can't replace them all this season
This is my hope for first game v Liverpool... Gk - Rushworth RB - BJ CB - Greaves CB - Burgess LB. - Leif CM - Morsy CM - Sheaf RW - Burns 10 - Hutch LW - Philogene (won't happen) CF - Hirst That would be a bloody decent side imo
I was actually joking but apologies if it came across as condescending. I have no clue whether any of our players are going to be good enough for the Prem but I do think this needs to be balanced against giving the majority if not all the 1st team the chance to play together and harness the spirit, mentality and understanding of each others games and McKenna's tactics. I believe one of our advantages over other teams is that first 11 have been together nearly 2 years and to dramatically change could be a huge risk. I think given what is often said about teams giving you more time and the fact we will probably have 0 teams sitting deep against us there might be a few surprises (but that is more in hope than expectation). I think in Chaplin and Broadheads and even Omari's case to a certain extent they are moments players who all have quality and technical ability but just how their games are will go in and out of games. Which is why I think we might need someone else in those forward areas as competition. Broadhead is definitely a confidence player and looked to have lost it a little towards the end of last season but in moment still showed his brilliant technical ability. It'll be interesting where Omari will play as I'm assuming he will now start more than not (unlike last season where on the whole he made more sub appearances), majority of the season he was coming on and competing with Burns but I think Burns is one of our most important players so think (agreeing with you) Omari might nail down one of the other positions or they all may rotate. I also think Broadhead would be suitable more centrally at times. The one thing I did prefer about last season was Omari, Sarmiento and Al Hamadi coming off the bench or even Burns as they all have that energy and explosiveness which can really impact a game in the back end of it against tiring legs. I don't think Chaplin and Broadhead have that same level of impact coming off the bench.
Ok, sorry if I misread your comment. Agree with most of the above, was t a fan of Sarmiento starting, he seemed to be better used as an impact sub. One thing I am wondering/questioning is will we play the same formation, will we play the same way, out from the back? Will the philosophy of we will attack you work in the Prem, I kinda hope we do attack teams but just think with current formation, we might get overrun in midfield
Bloody hell. Hirst is not the stuff of the Premier League. Even less so than Woolfy. How about having an experienced goalie at the club? De Gea or Pope?
I think we'll play the same formation but don't think we can afford to be quite as open. I think we were more open last season than we were in league 1 and I think that might have something to do with having Hladky at the back making the most of his passing ability. If Walton is to be our no.1 we still played it out from the back but perhaps not quite to the same level and something I didn't see too much of actually last season was catching teams on the break which we did with Walton in League 1 through his distribution. There were times last season particularly against the better teams where we got outnumbered in midfield and have thought maybe that might mean having someone like Taylor in the 10, so feels like more of a flat 3 in midfield, so more of a 433 than a 4231.
I'm not saying he can because there's a question mark against every player but Hirst came straight back into the team after being injured for 4 months in place of Moore who has PL experience and he made a huge difference to our results in the last week of the season. McKenna must think alot of him to do that. Give the players who got us there a chance, that's what I say. Pope is a good shout, Ipswich boy but not sure De Gea is realistic (wages) I suspect he'll end up outside of Europe because he's not great with his feet and no club will want to pay his wages.
Hirst is a handful whatever division he is in, I really like him up top and he is young and still learning his trade, can only get better. Prefer him to that Greek muppet we was after, scored quite a few goals but most of them were pens!!
If we actually sign anybody you can bet all the attributes will stack up, but so far that’s just speculation. I still think Hirst can do a job for us as a squad player, but surely not the main number nine. The level is so much higher than when his dad was playing and Ian Marshall was our target man.
Having said that, if we had Philogene, Hutch, Burns as the rest of the forward line then I could see Hirst fitting in as he gives us something completely different to those quick tricky players. Still though, I think we would be a bit flaky in games where there isn’t much space around the box and we need a stronger 9 to accommodate both Hutch and Philogene, or a stronger 10 with only two of Burns, Hutch and Philogene in the side.
Sort of. The point is, it’s about combinations, the style of the game and phases of the game. We didn’t really have too many options last season and we’ll need more of those in the Prem. Al Hamadi and Sarmiento and even Jackson came in and gave us something different and won us points but we need to add quality to those options too now.
