£3mill for this guy is a steal, regardless of what clauses have been included. If he's not a starter straight away, I can see him forcing his way into the line up this season coming.
This is a incredible coup for that price, Twitter is fun if you type in his name.. so many envious eyes.
Really really looking forward to seeing him in our system, fingers crossed the pre season games are streamed on YouTube
This may be an unpopular opinion. Depending on what’s going on with Bednarek, ABK, Stephens. I’d loan Edwards out to a good Championship team. Big step up from League 1 to the PL, and consistent game time whilst still being a step up in level will be better for him and us longer term then him being 5th choice and barely playing.
I'd stake a few quid on him establishing himself in the first team before Christmas. He's a serious talent.
Based on nothing but reading about him I’d say he is going to be higher up the pecking order than Wood. Whether that is 4th or 5th choice depends on what happens with other players as you say. If he’s 4th choice and we are going to be playing a back 3 he should still get a lot of playing time. 5th choice and I’d agree to loan him out and keep Wood around, but would be a bit strange I think to he signing 2 centre backs if we think ABK, Bednarek, Stephens and THB will all be here next season. I suppose at the prices being quoted we could just think that is too good to pass up and deal with the playing time issue later with a loan move for somebody
For me THB & Janny B should be in the team and that third role is up for grabs. I’d love Dislocated shoulder to pop back in the building and for things to work out, but I’d expect us to find a team willing to pay £10m + and we’d take it heard of Edward’s from England u21 and for him to play internationally whilst playing for an unfashionable side must count for something. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.
Happy enough with the signing. Usual cynic in me is wondering if the fee was as cheap as being reported and he was that good then why has he ended up here. Same goes for Wood on that front. Maybe it’s the Martin effect
I've just seen the reason why we were able to get him at the bargain price of £3m. He had a 50% sell-on to Barnet. So Posh would rather gamble on him making it big with us and then being able to get a 20% sell on clause of £40m/£50m we would sell him for and keeping the lot. Works out pretty well for us!
Barnet had a 50% sell on, and I think Peterborough has put a 20% Sell on, so I imagine they'll expect a decent fee in the future.
OK, that would’ve applied to whoever bought him though you’d think. Anyway in my new happy clapper role I am not going to moan just yet
Very, very happy with this signing. Peterborough clearly believe he is destined for the top, so were more concerned with the sell on clause than the initial fee. I do think our reputation of selling players on for big prices helped us here.
