A simple solution would be that every year a player trains with you accumulates a fixed sell-on to any contract should they leave.

So someone signs for the youth team aged 12 and is picked up by Chelsea at 16 has a 40% sell-on built into their contract on top of the normal remuneration owed.

That would guarantee genuine talent creation would be rewarded.

Not a huge surprise that the fees are low given they are both in the final year of contract. Although £3m does suggest sell clauses will be included - lets hope they are good enough to the point bigger clubs come sniffing!

We’ll there something to be said for players that come through the ranks, but I suppose the way things are going this is less a ‘thing’. Also, I guess we have been doing this with City re 18 year olds.

Yeah - no issue with sell on clauses. I welcome a world where other teams want our players and will pay big for them. It hasn’t been overly common in recent years and it the only way our club can really compete financially

Looking like a big squad reshuffle so far given there is also a new right back likely to come. Links to at least two central midfielders and also some more free transfer players

Lots is going to be going on it seems. Which can be fun.

Suggests Aarons is our first choice over the Japanese right back? Or just one on the list

Guess it’s each to their own, I’ve never really been fussed about where a player has come from as long as they perform when playing.

Doesn’t seem to make them more loyal as we have seen multiple times over the years with players who have come right through the academy

Intriguingly we seem to be largely working back to front. First move was to “sort” the goalkeeper position with a contract extension. Then defenders - a left back and two central defenders. Bid for right back but the whole thing will be contingent on KWP leaving as part of a deal for - defensive midfielder (seems next to happen)

So midfielders next and attackers last?
I could well be proven wrong very quickly

I’ve excluded THB as that deal was sorted last year

The assumption seems to be that we will sell Bednarek because he’s in his final year. But how much are we realistically going to get for him? Even with PSR it might not really be worth selling

I wouldn't assume that all. My assumption is that we will play 3 at the back a lot so we need good depth at CB.

That’s mine too. I don’t see how we go with 4 CBs if we plan on playing three every game. But the common response to us signing two more is that it must mean one is off

Bednarek will be replaced youd think if he is to be sold, For a financial standpoint he is pure profit now as his amortised fee is paid off.
Add ABK too and that's plenty for a first choice top CB to come in between THB and Ronnie Edwards I'd suggest.

Yeah - I just think the more naturally pessimistic people assume one of those two will be his replacement rather than a 4th CB signing (even if you could potentially count THB as a signing from last year)

It's already been said we will look to add premier league quality, so I've no doubt we will look to recruit someone with alot of playing time and experience in thus league to replace Bednarek should he be sold.

I mean matip was linked previously and its someone I could see coming in.

An interesting factor is that Charlie Taylor can also play CB, which would give RM the opportunity to switch between 2 or 3 CBs during a game without needing to use a substitute, which could be an interesting option.

Would be useful if Russ is planning to utilise 3 CB as our regular formation. If we are doing that I do think we need a quicker LWB though.

Assume that would be something that could happen if we bring Fraser back and he can switch between LWB and LW as the formation changes

I know you didn’t actually say but very easy to state he can cover the 6 position when in fact we very well know it’s quite a specialised position.

Dewsbury-Hall signs for Chelsea for £30m. Michael Golding leaves Chelsea and joins Leicester for £5m in a seperate deal

I read someone either on here or SW suggest they had seen him play well in that position. Rather than “can cover” - which I think were the words I used to be fair. I assume that isn’t what we are signing him for. But if we go into the season with one 6 (again) then I’d almost write off our chances. We were appalling when Downes didn’t play
