I like to see signings coming in who are untested and ready to make their way in the first team. The potential is exciting and better than the years of signing players who's only way was downhill!
He'll go far, him, England are looking very safe in midfield for years to come with the likes of Gray, Mainoo and Wharton coming through.
I think there was a miscalculation of the time it would take from Hemir,Mayenda and Rusyn settling and onto the training ground to when they would be ready for first team football. To compound matters, once this became apparent, the hastily arranged loan for Burstow also did not provide the answer. Rusyn,I believe, was signed as cover for Clarke anyway, and only found his way to the front role due to the lack of readiness of the others. Mistakes were made...let's hope they've learned from them.
Another youngster signing his first contract https://safc.com/news/academy-news/...uQiM_aem_eCzSpIOUG7q29Jg0p5--7w&sfnsn=scwspmo
Issue for me is that we can’t play them all as we’ve seen this season. If we continue signing 18 year olds to sit on the bench we aren’t going to move forward. Having Jobe, Rigg, Aouchiche all battling for one position is stopping two of them developing.
Willock staying at qpr by the looks of things, really wonder who this other free agent is coming in. You heard a name? @AEP2002
Burstow was he was highly rated by some, no saying he won't be good He may well turn out to be good, but Burstow was highly rated at under 21 level and he didn't turn out to be very good for us
I can see your point hopefully this young lad is a goodun. What gets me is the rigidity of the " model " basically buying under 25 yo with a few older experienced players thrown in. These under 20 yo have cost us money and some around a million or more. Add it up and it could easily be 10 million quid with wages . Might even have to give some away cheaply in the end. What's wrong with buying a 27yo L1 player for 500K and selling on for 750K. A profit is a profit . That's a model or not ?
Good news that, surprised it took that long. Tom Lavery, DRC, 18. 2 year contract with a +1 option. 9 appearances for the u21s last season, 8 for the u18s. Sat on the bench 3 times for the first team in Feb and March.
I’ve no problem with the age of players we sign but we have to go for the better ones and that wil cost us. If we reinvest sales into a lot of late 20’s players that doesn’t work but if we pay for the pick of the younger ones not (too many) gambles we will see less moaning about age.
What’s wrong with just buying a player because they’ll improve the team whether we make a profit or not? That’s what the younger lads are there to do
Nothing? Thats why every player we spend money on is a younger player. Doesn’t really answer the question though does it, why can’t we sign someone just because their value won’t go up if they’re going to be of benefit to the team?
We might have offered a 1 year extension and he wants more than that. I would give him 2 to be honest. edit:: He is still contracted until the end of this season, so plenty of time to sort it out.
