Oh piss off did they. They hardly created anything. Belgium arguably had the best chance with De Bruyne.
Is it me or has the general quality of this tournament been pretty poor since the first round of games?
I just mean in general rather than specific teams. The first round of games (bar ours of course) were excellent but it seems to have slowly got duller
I'd argue Germany haven't been brilliant either really. Good and better than most for sure but haven't looked world beaters outside of the sweaties obviously. Still backing them to win it of course.
Yeah. But it's not a one-off. I don't recall 2012 or 2016 being great either. I think 2000 is my favourite.
Assume it’s to do with the format so teams were happy to draw, same with smaller teams in the knockouts. Might be more entertaining in the quarters on the good side of the draw Or players are knackered with the amount of football and that’s having a knock on into a summer tournament
Think brendy is like me and a bit young for 96. I remember the song and the penalties against Germany but nothing else.
The last one was good. But there's obviously recency bias there and we did well, coming out of covid had an impact too. 2004 was a great tournament as well.
And I think you're desperate to make England look particularly terrible compared to everyone else. France have statistically been worse than England. Not one of their players has scored from open play. Granted, they had a tougher group but they couldn't beat an already eliminated Poland. I'm not defending England BTW, just that other teams have been just as unconvincing. The quality has been pretty poor - which is why England are still in it.
I still find it baffling that you chose England over Germany tbh. Imagine how much better the last 30 years could have been for you
Mate, it is about forward endeavour! You are just wrong about France in that last game. 19 shots to 5 is a pretty dominant! And Belgium were good!
