I think what was posted earlier is probably about right we sell him for 20-30m but with clauses etc we take 18m away from the deal
I'd be happy with the club getting around £20m for Clarke after Spurs take their cut. Players like Bowen and Lewis-Potter went for similar and are pretty similar players so that's the precedent. You can't compare him to the fees floating around for the likes of Archie Gray. I'd also take the lower offer if the cash was upfront over a higher reported fee but in instalments.
Attach it to a sell-on. Twenty million in cash and 10% sell on. Fifteen in cash and it's 25% sell on. We're in control here. Let's ream someone.
The wage cap had nothing to do with Stewart leaving. He wanted to stay, we wanted him to stay. He was prepared to sign the contract we offered, the problem was after the injury we wanted clauses in the contract to do with future and reoccurring injuries. He has to look after his future, financially it was more secure to leave to get a better deal. We couldn't take the risk not putting clauses in, which has been proved the right decision. In the end it was the best decision for both parties. Us and him would have loved a fully fit Ross Stewart here on a long term contract, only problem was the fully fit bit wasn't on offer
Only danger with a sell on is if he tanks again in the Premier League. Get as much up front as possible and have it done.
Aye I wouldn't be too fussed about a hefty sell on with Clarke, all about getting as much cash out of the sale as possible.
How about Clarke stays, the new manager builds a team around him, the club buy in 2 players he can actually pass to in the box giving us another goal scoring opportunity other than Clarke doing it all himself. I'm not keen on selling our best assets IF the club can afford to build without doing so. Over to you Mr Owner. ( That's not a knock at KLD cos he's doing a cracking job imo).
That injury was ****e for us and Stewart. The fee we got was good but would have rather he was fully fit, signed and contract extension and carried on his great form.
Sometimes a player and a club just fit. I think Clarke might know that so it won’t be an easy decision to move for (however much) more money.
