I only watched the highlights the news

Trump is actually his Spitting Image puppet but less mobile

Biden is like a reanimated corpse that is run on battery power and the batteries keep running down, his wife thought he did well so thats ok

He gets away with it the same way Rishi does, I suppose. Having a complicit media certainly helps

I think it's because with Presidents the whole environment around them is controlled, all their speeches are staged, no chance of any hecklers getting in, like our rallies.

I was watching a re-run in part of Trump last night, I wasn't interested in anything he had to say, so wasn't listening, I was just observing the supporters behind him. You should try it sometime, half the time it was as though they weren't even listening to him, but having their own party, as if they were being orchestrated. There was one lengthy ocassion during the speech, they weren't even looking at him, their attention had strayed to one side - no idea what they were looking at, as the cam dosen't pan, it just stays focused on the speaker. It was as if something else was going on in the background, interspersed with the ocassional cheers when Trump said some buzz word, indicated by the change in tone of his voice.

I think our MP's also do some of this staging, for example, it's very difficult to challenge Farage if he's at the top of a double decker bus, the best you can do is launch a cup and get arrested. Another example, Starmer at Gillingham Football Club, or any football club, controlled environments on who can get in. We already know Boris use to hide in freezers lol. Even Ed Davey with his water stunts, again controlled environments and the media would have to get in with him. Rishi is a good example of what happens if you don't control that environment well, you get a boat rowing pass in the background, by the Lib dems taking the piss.

Seems like everything in the USA is showbusiness. Their sport, their politics, everything, is all about putting on a show, and who cares if the result is fixed. Was sort of hoping we could avoid following suit, but perhaps not.

Still, no one can say Keir Starmer is a showbiz type; which is a good thing imo.

I wouldn't say he was the showbiz type, that I agree, he'd prefer not to be in the limelight, which is also not quite so good for a politician, but it can have it's advantages. However, hiding in football grounds, along with all the other examples of other party politicians is not a good look either, and is exactly what Trump does. Get out into the Town Centres or Cities and meet people - I don't mean staged meet people like Farage does down the pub, but get out among your voters. I've voted for him, but I was very disappointed his visit centred being on the turf of my club and not out and about, in what is a poor area by the looks of it.

You didn't like him being on your manor without personally coming to shake your hand, did you? <laugh>

Labour tends to use Wes Streeting or Angela Rayner for that, they're both much better at knocking on doors, kissing babies, and all that caper. Being relaxed and spontaneous in public is a weakness for Starmer, but if he makes it to Downing Street, he will finally be in a position to play to his strengths. Like quietly getting things done. And there'll be a lot to do, getting the country off it's arse, and healing the divisions which have been tearing us apart for years.

Jews are white too though. Just don't move to France and you should be OK with the Mrs. For now.

In France, the Arabs are the scapegoats. Not really a comfortable time for Africans either

We’re white when it suits and not white enough when it suits but there are Jews of lots of colours. I’d fit in well hanging about outside a shisha shop or as an extra in Taken, for example.

"White enough" is funny to me. No one is "racially pure". I think the statistic I read once was something like 98% of people on earth have at least one ancestor of a different race if you go back just 17 generations.

Who is white or not is fairly subjective...

People have always travelled and moved around, even before globalization and oil based travel became a thing.

Yeh of course there's a racial mix but what you've highlighted also signifies more than just colour. It's about culture as well as race.

What I've seen in my lifetime is how immigrants assimilate into their environment (the UK) with each new generation that's born and grow up here. And at the same time those who could be classed as the longstanding indigenous population adopt and adapt from the culture of those who come in and their descendants. Like the locard's exchange principle in forensics where contact between two things will always result in an exchange of material. It's why I never understand why ppl are so xenophobic, like what they see in immigrants is anything fixed or permanent, it's neither.

Give it a couple of generations and ppl homogenise and move on. It's been happening for centuries. Your example of colour/race runs parallel with that.

Just been having a nose around social media sites and it is being reported that a couple of normally accurate polls have actually seen an increase in Biden numbers since the debate. This is supposed to be sending Trump ballistic (not sure how they know that bit, because I can’t find any “tweets” from him?

Farage has shown his true colours.

Cried cos he didn't get a spot on question time, then cried cos he didn't like the questions.
