We didn’t bale on him the owners did. They didn’t have the knowledge or finances to build the project so the cheap optio was to throw bielsa under the bus and appoint a succession of morons to try organise a team of second rate signing
Owner was more than happy to go along with Bielsa and his small squad mentality. Both of course were decisions bound for failure and ended up one game with rodrigo and a load of kids on the bench. So for me it was a joint effort as i don't do hero worship.
The question is did Bielsa ever say publicly he’d only operate with a small squad. I’m not sure. I think there may have been some spin from the club there
I’m not doing hero worship just pointing out what happened. Yes Bielsa liked small squads but he pointed out to Radz / Orta that the squad needed refreshing and the majority of the players wouldn’t cope with another season of his type of training / play. We finished 9th, the management saw the £ signs so decided to ignore him thinking they’d get the same from the players again and didn’t change the squad sufficiently. Bielsa was right as players picked up injuries and couldn’t sustain the level he demanded. As Eire always puts it, they went for the cheap option. So rather than admit that what was happening was exactly what Bielsa told them would happen they sacked him and replaced him with the legendary coach Jesse Marsch.
One of Bielsa's season's, he only used 23 players, the lowest in the division. Not sure he actually mentioned it tho
That doesn’t mean that’s necessarily what he wanted. Heard it time and again that there was no point making signings if you’re not improving the team. Doh. Surely the remedy is to make better signings then instead of the pile of ****e under Marsch. Although as we didn’t pay much at the time for them we shouldn’t be too critical
and that was the season we finished 9th in the Premier league The two seasons in the Championship he used 28 players and the season he got sacked, 29 players represented us.
Won’t be much of a forum if you only want comment from only those with information privy to the club. What is a fact is Bielsa said in an an interview (to paraphrase to assuage your pendantic nature) that the squad would not be able to match the 9th place finish that season. Okay, in my opinion the owners didn’t refresh the squad sufficiently, some might agree that as factual, you might think they did.
Archie. Reportedly doing medical at Brentford after agreeing terms and a 35 m deal supposedly. Strange thing I don’t really give a damn anymore who stays or goes
Apparently it's against his wishes, that's why the outcry, he doesn't want to go and the rumour is, Eddie is prepared to cut ties with the club over it. Apparently a few have emailed the club about being able to return their ST'S and let one of the waiting list have them, not that itvwould bother them, a sales a sale as far as they're concerned. The ****show the last 7/8 games as come back to haunt us.
Gray going to settle debts. Summerville going, so to use money for new players. But with Cresswell, Shackleton, Gyabi virtually gone, how are we going to fill an already light on numbers squad with £30m. Let's not forget Rodon and Antony have gone back to their clubs also.
£35 million is not enough. Should be minimum of £45 million. Archie must be gutted. Brentford is a bad move for him. Just for clarity, Archie can turn it down.
