Rumours abound that Jason wilcox is picking the team now at utd so is happy to keep ten Hag as the guy allowed it to happen for the fa cup final. The second tin hat steps out of line wilcox will fire him and get in someone to do what he tells them. Or whatever the rumours say. Mildly interesting.
Rob page sacked as Wales manager. Couldn't happen to bigger arsehole. Well deserved for his interference with players club careers.
So listening to some accounts of the 1930 "world cup"... Called a world cup, but because it was in South America and travel was so slow and expensive back then, it was mostly just teams from the Americas in attendance. Apparently in the semi final USA (US was good at football back then... But their team was over half British and weren't American citizens) The doctor for the US (who happened to be an Irish man) had to be removed from the stadium because he accidentally knocked himself out with chloroform (which is a lot harder to do than it looks in the movies... It takes minutes for it to really knock you out). Apparently multiple refs in that tournament got death threats. When Uruguay beat Argentina in the final, Argentina went on to claim that the fact Argentina lost proves international tournaments are pointless. Argentina was so annoyed that almost all the players from the 1930's Argentina world cup squad refused to attend the 1934 world cup claiming internationals are pointless (because they lost in 1930). They also went on to explain why football fizzled out in the early 20th century in the US. It wasn't because other sports were necessarily more popular... Apparently it was because regulatory bodies were all continuously fighting and it made it hard to set up any games because the sport was so fractured and America eventually gave up on the sport despite actually being pretty decent at it back then. Egypt was going to take part in the tournament. The only African team willing to compete... But they missed the ship that was to take them and so couldn't make it there in time.
No. Would cost over $1000 to take my kids and I can't in good consciousness go by myself. I was so excited when I heard LFC was going to be 30odd mins away. I've been to all the games in Charlotte which were less than half the price in better facilities. So know to expect basically a training exercise rather than a game... Can't justify $1000 on that.
Nunez been in quality form for Uruguay at Copa so far. Scored again the other day. Just hope that Slot can unleash that potential and refine him a little bit more than Klopp managed as his all round play is always going to cause other teams problems and just need to increase that conversion rate by 5-10% and he’s suddenly hitting 20 prem goals rather than 12/13
You can see exactly what we get from Darwin on display here. And again. The same stuff. Misses, offside, saves, goal. Hay trick. Imo if we want to get a tune out of this lad we have to get more bodies in the box and play more from wide areas again. The others have to pick up the pieces off his chaos and we have to accept he will miss a lot
You’ve changed your tune. When we were having a discussion a while ago about his style of play and I said that he causes chaos, you told me “he doesn’t cause chaos, that’s another piece of Carragher waffle”.
