Alan Nixon has put a piece out saying Saints are interested in Liam Delap if Ché Adams goes. Been interested two years in a row and are keen to have a strong runner and someone who can hold the ball up, if CA does leave. Man City willing to sell for £10m but top Champ sides struggling to meet asking price.
I would have thought we’d have moved on from Delap by now. Is he really that good? Hasn’t shown much the last two seasons in the Champ to suggest he’s up to stepping up to the PL. A striker that’s been average in the champ for £10m, no thanks.
I'd take a punt on him for 10m. Only just turned 21 and strikers rarely reach their best at such a young age. At 21 Shearer was scoring fewer than 5 goals a season. If it doesn't work out, we'd recoup most of the 10m anyway.
He’s better than Bazunu. I’m a bit underwhelmed, but would be more concerned if Bazunu was not injured and we were persevering with him in the PL.
Totally agree. At that age, attributes might be sneaking through but not obvious. Harry Kane had some 'OK' loans up until he was 20 ... (he was born in '93)
I asked the Hull board what they thought of Liam Delap and they are all clearly very impressed with him. Seems like he has everything but isn't quite there with his finishing just yet.
This was reported a while ago, found this from February https://m.independent.ie/sport/socc...championship-side-southampton/a979771622.html
Interesting that we seem to have really targeted Ireland with our scouting. Thats a couple of top young talents we have signed now.
Would that mean a midfield of Downes, Smallbone and O’Riley? I wonder if he’s considered a better fit than Alcaraz and this is where at least some of the funds for the fee and wages will come from?
£30 million over a five year contract means we swallow £6M this year plus his first year wage for spending rules. Seems pretty minimal.
