Not defending Biden as I think my mum, who has advanced dementia, would have given him a good run for his money last night, but I don’t get how Trump can just stand in public and spout lie after lie without being challenged.

Because he says what his supporters want to hear... they don't want the truth.

But surely that should be countered by the other side who don’t support him.

I've seen todays early evening political campaign by Biden, he seemed and looked pretty confident and happy standing there giving his speech - I do wonder early hours of this morning whether Biden had allowed Trump to get under his skin, just by being in the same room. I will say I am pretty much like Biden and not very good at hiding publically if I dislike someone, and I think that's some of what I saw in Biden from last nights showdown, he was virtually growling.

Combine that with health it don't make a great presentation.

I mean, I do see articles after every time he makes a speech or debate or whatever that lists all the things he lied about... which is usually more than the things he was honest about.

Milk, got a question for you, looking at the British media, it's as if Biden is finished, but I'm wondering if the British media have their own agendas, how did it go down in the American media over there, the same, or have our lot blown it all out of proportion?

My own view was it was being hyped up as an easy Biden win by most commentators in the US, as they all claimed that Trump wouldn’t be able to debate with the conditions set.
The sad reality was that Trump offered nothing but his normal lies and Biden looked like a rabbit in the headlights.

I didn't watch the debate myself... Waste of time for me, I'm not going to vote for Trump no matter how bad Biden does... <laugh> But everything I read both left wing media and right wing media is painting it as an absolute disaster for Biden and how a lot of Democrats secretly want to get rid of Biden so they have better chance for someone else.

Personally I think it might make less difference than many fear... At this point you either love or hate Trump... if you hate him, you'd rather a baked potato in the whitehouse than Trump. Trump has said enough things to make me fear democracy is in severe danger if he is re-elected. I'd rather a senile buffoon- or anyone than Trump. I can deal with 4 years of incompetence rather than a lifetime of tyranny. I suspect many feel the way I do.

From what I’ve seen, even the Biden supporting media are saying it was disaster.

Yeah I agree, although I think with Biden, especially around Biden's son, he allowed it to chew him up inside and it allowed the understandbly poorer side of him to come out. I actual felt sorry for Biden watching him in the replays, while it looked as though Trump knew he didn't have to do anything, because he knew the man opposite him wouldn't be able to cope mentally with the ocassion.

They ought to let Biden's vice president run, surely she must be a more capable candidate?

Read earlier that she has a lower approval rating than both Biden and Trump so probably not the best move.

This is spot on. I'll only add it didn't help that most of the press were against him and absolutely scared the country blind about him. Nobody was defending him like we get with a divisive grifter like Farage. Corbyn probably didn't help himself either, but a lot of the policies were good for the country and would've strengthened public services and working conditions. Increase in NHS budget, free prescriptions, free minimum dentistry, no hospital car parking charges, single market, 4 day working week, reform of social care including free personal care for the elderly who needed support with daily living, nationalising railways and water companies! Building 100,000 council homes a year. All ambitious and bold and would've put us in a better place than the ****show and corruption we've seen over the past 5 years.

Again, not true. I certainly was never scared of of Corbyn, why would I be, what was there to be scared of. You sometimes come across as though you speak for everyone, but you certainly don't speak for me. The reason people didn't vote for him will be down to numerous reasons, when did Corbyn lose, was it around the time of Brexit? My only concern with Corbyn is much like it is with Sunak now, all he ever wanted to do was talk about the opposition and it becomes boring.
