After last season's horror show i hope that better times are ahead. I remember how bad it was under lorrie mac. Before that good times with the 80's team with owers, armstrong, elliott, turner in goal etc.. later on it was gatesy scoring against the mags etc.. Recently, super kev and quinny in the 90's. Those were amazing times when the city felt alive. Even during keanos reign at least he got us promoted as champions, with himself earning the title of championship manager of the year. Mind you we did sign about a million players in one transfer window lol. Point is that i feel optimism this time around and i hope i'm right. Surely they carnt get worse?
If we can get the spine of the side right, then the players we have we should have a good season I think. It looks like the recruitment side will be targeting players who can come straight into the team rather than buying young ones who might get into it.
That same squad produced some of the best football I've seen Sunderland play in half a decade ... ... so a good manager and a few signings could get that back. Our goal at Reading wasn't just a moment of individual magic, it went from keeper to full back to midfield and on to the striker ... a real team goal the opposition couldn't stop. Ha’way the Lads!!!
I can remember dozens upon dozens of good times. This club has wrapped me up for over 60 years. I won't begin to bore you all with it. Having said that,I can remember dozens upon dozens of miserable times too. At the beginning of each new season,we build our hopes and aspirations...this new season is no different! We'll be there,as we always are......Hawaay,me bonny lads!
It's the performance that gets me. We got relegated in 90-91 but I still enjoyed that season as we played some decent football. It's the recent times when we play absolute crap and get beat that sucks the life out of me. If we can fix the performance the morale overall should improve.
It doesn't take much to make us happy, when you sit back and look at last season it got people down because the season before we where absolutely flying. A new head coach, a brilliant kit launch and pretty much everyone is bouncing for the new season. If we manage a couple of early signings as well then the anticipation will rise even higher. I've often said if everything came together our club would be backed in noise and numbers that would shock the football world
Absolutely spot on. But this is the love of safc. Ups and downs. All supporters must understand this as it goes with the territory. It's called being a fan. All clubs go through this pain. But what you do is stick by your team in good times or bad. God as safc fans we know this, understand this and hope it changes with every season .
P.s to last post above, if memory serves me right in 1997 we had a labour landslide victory coinciding with a peter Reid success. Just saying. Clutching at straws time.
