Christ no, he's not seen a football for about a year, he'd pick it up or something. Ali will want £££ wages despite this and would not, I suspect, sign on a pay as you play basis. The positive if we signed him is several Everton fans would incur strokes through laughing fits at the news.
Like many I suppose, I wondered what on earth happened to Ali that saw his form plummet. This interview with Neville on The Overlap cleared that up (he was sexually abused as a child, addicted to painkillers and was suffering from depression, all resulting in mental health rehabilitation) and he appears completely determined to reignite his career. Someone could get the best out of him and there's no reason not to think that someone could be Martin. The fact that KWP is his best pal lends some credibility of course and if he only becomes half the player he was, that's plenty for us.
Not bad business getting nearly £7 million for 2 players not part of RM plans and who were out on loan last season and hardly played.
I know he's not premier league level, but I will miss our gurilla. He spoke to my mates son in hospital and he he says he was genuinely friendly and concerned for him. Good luck brother.
Sometimes we have players that you take a liking to not because they are brilliant footballers but because they connect with the fans. Jos Hoijveld was one and Lyanco was another. Maybe it's not right but I always gave them more leeway than the others because I wanted them to do well.
Will be interesting to see which of these free transfers come in for us. Charlie Taylor is probably one of the best players linked and in a position of need. Always impressed me when playing for Burnley, great left foot.
He’s been linked before. Presumably a Che Adams replacement as “striker who won’t score that many goals in the premier league”. I don’t see us beating out that many other teams to him on a free. Especially not more established premier league teams and a contract from Saudi
This IV was very enlightening. Genuinely hope he gets things together. If he gets himself back on track, as a free agent he will be able to pick the club he wants and will be good asset to a mid table or bottom half team. If he can cope with being down there!
