I think it’s that, and the things like free bets once you sign up and start adding money to your online account. Payout paid as more bets and what looks like every device they can think of to keep people hooked.
I don't really worry what the polls say, it's actually what people do that counts. I've voted and voted Labour, not heard anyone else say on here if they've voted yet, and how is that compared to the trend in the polls?
Yeah I dunno what percentage makes up the postal vote, but it has to be a tiny fraction surely. It does all come down to what people do on 4th July. And for Labour they need to quash that narrative that it's a done deal, and make sure people get out and put the X in the box.
I'm not sure I'm completely happy doing a postal vote, especially with the delay in post these days, and how do you even know it's reached it's destination. It is clear to anyone seeing it that it's a postal vote, depends how much I trust the post office suppose...and I'm not as trusting as I use to be because I have had stuff go missing. Probably need to go back to voting in person, but not looked up how I go about that.
This is the other problem with betting. Apps pinging at you reminding you to bet, or encourage you to add more money to your account, get 'free' bets, take advantage of 'deals' etc etc. All designed to sink their hooks deeper into people and keep them spending. Gone are the days where you had to walk into a bookies, fill out a slip and hand over cash.
I read all the polls, but just cos I find them interesting. You always have to view it as a general trend, which is why Spurf pissed me off that one time. When he cited one singular poll he liked and pretended it was gospel. In general, the trend is Tories down, Labour holding strong at around 40% and Reform and Liberals gaining ground. Since the day of the election calling, I have seen almost no trend of Green gaining any further support.
I know it's prone to errors and manipulation, but I would introduce an online voting system. We do all of our banking online these days, so surely there's a way to make it secure ? You'd probably get a 80%+ turnout if it was online.
Yeah it feels like people are falling out of love with the Greens. I wonder if they pick up the blame for some of these action protests.
Labour have done this before (I voted in two of em) and there was lots of talk about it being misused.
Yeah, for anyone with a problem it must be a nightmare. Though you can restrict yourself on most sites. I used to enjoy the social side of an afternoon in the bookies, playing the horse at Sedgefield and Plumpton, seeing the regular faces. That’s all gone too now. Most people in betting shops seem to be playing the machines, standing in front of them like robots.
I dunno if it's falling out of love or they've just hit their ceiling, they're competing against Labour for serious left voters. There's not a single centre right person in this country who would vote Green. Then you have Liberals who are right now running left of Labour, then Reform who are right of the Tories. What do Greens have to grab? There's a tiny portion of people left who would vote for them
I don't gamble cos I know I am too obsessive as a person and agree it can destructive to many ... Mrs RCL says in years to come people will look back at these years like we do at smoking ads in the 50s and 60s. My issue isn't with these ****ers gambling its that they used inside knowledge to line their own pockets. That's the same (to me) as MPs lobbying for industries or companies where they or their family/mates have a financial stake in.
I think one of them was the leadership election. I was part of that. Sign up to the Labour party for a fiver or whatever it was and get your one member one vote. That was prone to loads of people who weren't labour supporters signing up and trying to influence the outcome. But in a GE, surely your one vote would simply count towards the overall total Unless you mean something else ?
It could be a case of people knowing that their Green vote is unlikely to elect a candidate, unless you're in Brighton. And being so determined to make sure the Tories don't get in, that they are going to vote with one of the main parties.
