Just looking at their fixtures and the next 5 games, after the opening two, includes Boro, Sunderland, WBA, Burnley and Sheffield Utd, followed by Stoke away. Fingers crossed they are pointless after those games.
Imagine if we drew them at home in the second round of the league cup, it'd probably be the second game of the new away configuration which wouldn't be ideal.
Group Stage of Copa America almost done, and the big shock has to be the hosts - USA - going out already. Canada have progressed despite being in a group with Chile and Argentina. Some outrageous behaviour from the ref in the Uruguay vs USA match last night. There was a foul by a US player, and the ref got out his book/cards, so the players stopped play (to see if red or yellow etc), but the ref simultaneously played advantage to let Uruguay continue their attack. He pulled out the yellow as the play was going on! The ref also refused to shake hands with some of the US players after the game.
They usually invite non South American teams for their tournament. As they wanted big money they moved it to USA and invited a number of CONCACAF teams.
That was the referees first ever tournament game they said. Odd they would put him in a group deciding game. Surely there was an inconsequential game in the tournament he could have done. He was crap the entire game. Hope he isn’t invited to the World Cup any time soon.
Random one, but has anyone here read "The Miracle of Castel di Sangro" about an Italian village team that made it into Serie B? Was written in 1996, but is SO well worth reading - a backdrop of corruption, mafia dealings, tragedy and sporting heroism. It's a cracker of a book, and particularly reading it now and realising that Gravina, one of the key characters, is astonishingly now the president of the Italian football federation.
I'm sure somebody on here mentioned it before, Ian perhaps? I ordered it a couple years back but not got round to it yet. Must do so soon.
Saints legend Martín Cáceres came on at HT in the quarter final between Uruguay and Brazil in Copa America. Game finished 0-0 with Urugay winning on penalties.
