See, this is the arrogance of some England fans. They've stunk the place out in 3 games but making 2 changes means they'll win the tournament. ****ing hell man https://x.com/rioferdy5/status/1805733722295353501
We will have a better chance. I agree with him. We need speed and youth. Southgate is a melt. Playing the same trusted players out of habit. We are slow, with no playing identity that's positive. I would drop some big players.
Me too, but the first decent team England play will be the team that knocks them out. FWIW I'd drop Gallagher, Saka & Bellingham in favour of Mainoo, Gordon and Palmer. Move Foden to the 10 and get Gordon and Palmer down the wings. The problem is, this means that some of these England players are going to have to start running. I was observing this last night and was stunned how many of them just stand and watch when others are on the ball. There is zero intensity, it's like watching walking football at times.
I agree and disagree. There is no way Southgate is telling them to play sideways football at walking pace, but maybe he's not strong enough to get his message over, or to drop players who aren't performing. Maybe his time is just up with England - there have been plenty successful managers who say that after a certain amount of time, the players just need a new voice in the dressing room. I can see England going out in the next round, especially if they come up against the Netherlands.
It's how we have already played under him. Slow and deep. It's always been the same. With the players we have, that's the weak part. It's not expansive or progressive. Weak and conservative.
Just think that would be changing quite a bit in a few days. Theyve likely being working with a back 4 for a while now so big ask to change now to a back 3 England need to play at tempo, thats where they are at their best Its not about fitting all your best players in, iys about playing a team that fits a systen
Engerland will reach the semis and the whole nation will be waving flags and making out they are diehard Engerland fans. I'm dreading this false Ness. Me, I want Engerland to do well but not arsed at all if they get knocked out. You won't catch me draping a flag over my house. SAFC Till I die
Changing to a back 3 might not be too difficult. Stones,Guehe and Gomez, with Walker and Gordon as wing backs. Rice and Wharton in front, giving Rice ability to get forward more,Kane,Watkins as a front two,Foden in behind. What do ya reckon?
Its a very different system to play tho, both in n out of possession- obviously they might have worked on it in training but big ask to change mid comp In your team gordon would struggle as a wingback against any decent opponent as its not what he is used too
With anyone but Southgate I'd have been amazed to see Kane start instead of Watkins ... ... already being through meant it was the perfect opportunity. Instead Watkins was told he wasn't to be trusted against a team like Slovenia which means he has no chance of starting in the knockout stages. So, if Kane is now injured in training, Southgate will have to tell him he has every confidence in him to get the job done in the next game. Safety first against a team like Germany, last night, would be understandable ... ... against Slovenia it was cowardly.
Saka LWB and Trippier RWB for me and I'm not a fan of a back 3. Clearly something dramatic needs to change whether it be the formation or the personal. Even if he stays with a back 4 it needs Trippier at RB so we at least have one full back cable of being an attacking threat. For all the pace Walker has he can often slow things down by his constant cutting back on himself. He's also got a poor delivery compared to the mag.
He does track back canny well though and Gomez is left sided so would naturally move over. I take the point about changing mid tournament, but they don't really have anything to lose. If they continue in this vein, they're going to get beat in the first knock out,no matter who it's against.
