Apparently, Gallagher will start in place of Alexander-Arnold against Slovenia. I’m done with Southgate. Boring man who plays boring, negative football with one of the most talented generation of English players in history. He plays it so safe all the time, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wears two condoms when he shags his missus.
If he thinks that's the solution to what we've served up so far then he's even more incompetent then I thought
He stated he always wants 2 base midfielders So its expected If its not hendersom its philips if not its trent its gallagher And if its not gallagher itll be warton
Take off Trent put Gordon on the left wing, Bellingham next to rice and move Foden inside as a number 10. If Shaw is fit enough put him at left back. When needed Bellingham can move forward to create an extra body up front when we are attacking and drop back when defending. I would give Kane the first half but if he’s not getting in dangerous positions swap him at half time, bring on either Watkins or big tone. But for **** sake if we happen to score go for more and not sit back you defensive minded tit… Attack the bastards!! This manager **** is so ****ing easy sat on the couch with a beer, absolutely no idea why they get so stressed lol….
I’d prefer Wharton to Gallagher all day long. I get what Wharton does, I get that he anchors the midfield and very rarely loses possession. He’s also good at moving the ball up the pitch quickly. Hoddle introduced the notion of two proper defensive midfielders in the same starting line up with Ince and Batty. It worked but only because the players fitted his vision. I hope he proves me wrong but I don’t know what Gallagher brings to the table. I don’t think he’s technically gifted or disciplined enough to work in a double pivot( I’ve succumb to modern day parlance) and as such I have real doubts as to why he’d start. My patience will evaporate completely if Gallagher starts tomorrow.
I see he's reached the "I don't listen to criticism" stage now that every manager goes through when he's been found out and his days are numbered
The route to the semis looks pretty straightforward, it'll be one of the 3 third-placed sides and then either Switzerland or a really poor Italy team in the quarters. Gareth's definitely been aided by some really favourable draws that have got us deep into tournaments.
If you asked any England supporter if Gallagher should start ahead of Mainoo, Wharton, Gordon, Palmer, Eze or TAA and I reckon less than 5 % would say yes.
There’s a few options Southgate can go for if he continues to play a ‘double pivot’ in a 4-2-3-1. Bellingham plays next to Rice as a prime Yaya Touré-style box-to-box midfielder who can drive the ball forward from deep with powerful runs. Foden (or Palmer) plays as the number 10 and Gordon plays left-wing. Play Mainoo there in a similar role as mentioned above. Play Wharton as a deep-lying playmaker next to Rice; almost Pirloesque, giving Rice more freedom to get further forward like he does for Arsenal sometimes. Or just play Gallagher there, which would be the worst option in my opinion. He’ll pick the last option, because it’s the ‘safest’. The man has no bollocks.
We've been ****. We need to find a performance that's not ****. Everyone thinks they know the starting XI that would solve all our problems. I think it's a bit more complicated than that. Wouldn't care if he went unchanged if he could sort out the pressing and get us moving the ball like a good side again rather than giving it away all the time and getting ourselves pinned in our own half. I don't care that our left back is right footed and I don't care that Foden and Bellingham would ideally both prefer to play number 10. These are imperfections in the makeup of our squad that every nation has to deal with. It shouldn't mean that we get played around like a lesser side when we're playing against group stage fodder.
After seeing Jude play deeper for Dortmund, I wouldn't be playing him there in the knockout stages. He does leave you a bit defensively vulnerable. Hopefully Slovenia actually come out and have a go tomorrow, as I didn't think the first two came with any intention of trying to win.
I'd quite like to see us play 352, Walker/Stones/Guehi at the back. Saka/Bellingham/Rice/Whalton/Gordon midfield with Foden and Kane up top.
We will beat Slovenia but that doesn’t mean that Southgate isn’t a tactically inept spineless coach. Foden needs to play 10 put Gordon on the left. Bellingham alongside Rice. Kane isn’t fit start Watkins. It’s Slovenia for **** sake.
