But it was more of a must win game for Hungary. Either Scotland should have set up far more positively from the start, against a very average and beatable opponent. Or they should have waited for Hungary's desperation to set in, and hit them on the counter-attack. Instead, Scotland did Hungary's work for them - they were the ones who opened themselves up, and Hungary said thank you.
Not an easy position for Moyes to be in. As a fan. As a fellow manager. And, I presume, as the guy who will soon be taking Steve Clarke's job.
One. Smashed in over the bar tonight. Never had any service or help though. Mainly thanks to Steve Clarke.
His leg got taken out from under him by the challenge because his knee buckled with the impact. 10000% pen and should have been as easy decision for the VAR to send the referee to the screen.
Scotlands tournament has been just about as stereotypical as possible. Imagine David Moyes phone has been ringing already.
Interesting fixtures tonight from an England PoV. If we are to win our group, the winner of Croatia/Italy would be our likely QF opponent. Italy have been pretty poor so far, if Croatia did win then England would have the opportunity to get to the semi's without having to play a top nation. The draw has been very kind to England, would be a shame if we wasted it!
Playing Che as an isolated striker makes me think that Steve Clarke and his team have never watched him play for Saints. We could all have pointed out the flaw in that plan.
Surely Scotland should be a little better than they have looked I’ve only watched a bit of their games because they’ve been absolutely **** throughout And no matter how bad they are Clarke plays the same team with the same lack of visible passion, energy, skill or strategy Stuey looked fit when he came on, why was it at the last minute As mentioned, Che as a lone striker?!?!?! The fans keep believing and singing, I’ve really no idea how they do that
Is it? Kane was never going to be dropped, the back 4 is fine - Shaw has only just started to train so he's not fit enough to replace Trippier. Trippier's not a huge issue anyway - just limited going forwards. Gallagher in for TAA should have a decent effect on the team. Happy enough with that.
Yes. The midfield was a clear problem but the fact we have no threat down the left flank has been evident in both games, not just Denmark. Foden does not work with Trippier behind him. You either drop Trippier for someone that will overlap to allow Foden to drift inside or you drop Foden for Gordon. I also think Wharton is a much better choice than Gallagher as he is actually defensively minded and helps transition defence to attack.
