I was about to say we need a right back regardless of whether KWP stays or leave, but I completely forgot we've still got Bree. Tbh, I think KWP will be off - shunting him to LB permanently would just be silly.
Selling the only player in our squad who can consistently play well in the PL seems pretty mental and Saintsy. Would’ve thought the club would say run your contract out and leave on a free a la Adams or Armstrong. I guess the main difference is we didn’t need money last summer because of other sales, this summer we may well need money from selling more than the returning loanees
Depends what was agreed last summer, I guess - and how much another team wants him and if it's a reasonable step up on us
Yeah no idea what was said behind the scenes, and it was a huge surprise he did stay last season. My thinking is if he was happy to stay last season then he may be happy to stay this if the club are happy not getting a fee for him. He’ll be 28 when his contract expires which means he will be able to get a large last contract wherever he goes, no different to if he leaves this summer, and potentially bigger given he’ll be a free signing. Obviously runs the risk of being **** this season or getting injured and not much interest come the summer but you’d think worst case would be he signs an extension with Saints as we would likely want him to stay regardless of how he does this season. Then he can play in the Championship again where he has just been one of the best players.
Pure profit on academy player sales. Done before the FFP cut off end of June. Same clubs buying and selling between each other at massively inflated prices. Yeah, nothing fishy going on at all.
All within the rules though, by the sounds of it. This is happening because the Premier League's FFP/PSR rules aren't fit for purpose, and clubs are taking advantage of loop holes. I assume the Premier League can't get involved in judging what is a fair deal or not, because an asset is worth what the buyer is willing to spend.
I have no idea how calculations work for FFP but if you are just buying and selling players for the same price between clubs (which I think is what happened with Dobbin and Iroegbunam) then doesn’t it just net to zero leaving you in the same position as if you didn’t do the deal? Or is it only a fraction of the spend counts this season whilst you can spend the whole sale fee?
Wouldn’t have Fraser and Targett combined worth £20m. Not sure on the availability of Nick Pope, seems to have fallen out of favour there. Don’t think he’s the best with his feet either so probably not someone we would target despite being a good keeper Seems like Newcastle are getting in on the “let’s cheat FFP” by selling Minteh to Everton for £30m and buying DCL for £35m
Can't remember where I read about it now, but that was the gist of it. The sale 100% counts as profit for this period. The spend can be spread over multiple years for FFP.
When you buy a player the the fee is spread over the duration of the contract. When you sell a player you receive all of fee into your books.
So all the deals that are basically for the same money are definitely just swapping money to fudge the books then. Could just do swap deals if they wanted to but no money involved then.
