Whose the best candidate? Were you in the interviewing panel? You know he's the cheapest option? You have followed his career and have spoken to players who have worked under him? Can you explain yourself please

Just to say - you could have put a negative spin on any appointment

Still - so we waited this long to get someone who had similar form to Dodds before leaving

Maric - so we waited this long to get someone who’s never had a head coach job before

Cifuentes - so we waited this long to get someone who’s only been in England for a short stint

Rosenior - so we waited this long to get someone who failed to get play offs with a good squad

Heck - so we waited this long to get someone who barely got promoted and then destroyed by the mags etc

Every appointment we could have made you could have spun in a negative way to criticise it. May as well get behind Regis now as it’s clearly him.

It does seem a bit strange that we are appointing a manager who has just had a team relegated. That said, so have Bayern Munich. I am guessing they are looking at his first season where he got them playing exciting football with a load of youngsters. Its a risk and surely Speakman's last throw of the dice. Overall though, I am more upbeat about Le Bris than I was about the awful Beale or maybe that is less depressed than I was about Beale or Parkinson's appointment. He is also more appretising than Challinor or Robinson. It will be a journey into the unknown, lets hope its an inspired appointment.

Of the 3 you were told, where would Le Bris have been if you had a choice?

    If we appoint Le Bris,it's a gamble,agree. But,anyone is a gamble.Whether we've learned from previous,we'd hope so.As for fans being past caring.....nearly 1450 pages suggests otherwise.

I’m under no illusion this wasn’t one of our primary candidates but his relegation with llorient wasn’t out of the ordinary. They finished one place above the relegation places (16th) in their first and second season back from Ligue 2, brought in Le Bris from the youth set up and he managed a 10th place finish after selling some key players in January before dropping to 17th this season and being relegated by a single goal on GD - worth nothing they sold their 2 biggest assets in the summer though and they weren’t adequately replaced.

Pretty sure Nice also went after him before appointing Farioli last summer. Not sure how he’s the easy option when he’s currently employed by another club? Deserves a chance imo and it’s a lot better than some of the names we’ve been linked with.

I just asked chat gpt to translate this and provide a summary (below). Seems like a decent fit if he can follow through with this approach at Sunderland.

"Based on the clip, Régis Le Bris discussed his coaching philosophy and the importance of developing young players. He emphasized creating a cohesive team environment where each player understands their role and works towards a common goal. Le Bris also highlighted the importance of tactical flexibility and adapting strategies based on the opponent and match conditions. He spoke passionately about fostering a strong work ethic and encouraging continuous improvement both on and off the pitch.

If there are any specific parts you'd like a more detailed translation of, let me know!"

You don't speak for me. You don't speak for anyone on this board apart from yourself.

Might be time to dust off the old Lionel chant for Le Bris.

Dunno the bloke, but looks like another underwhelming appointment.

    At least he’s rather handsome.

Where's that from? £5m?! Sure there's not been a zero added? They wanted him to resign anyway.

Done a bit of research into L'Orient last summer. They sold 3 players for a combined £50m who had 40+ goal contributions between them in 2022/23. For a team traditionally battling against relegation, that's a lot to take out of it...

Perhaps the club have been crafty with all this and thrown people off the scent ...

... the lad I was talking to insisted he'd been told Cifuentes was who they were negotiating compensation for.

Anyway it's quite funny that Régis translates as 'manager', I don't dare mention what Le Bris means <laugh>
