Not that we should just be shopping in the French market but with the financial uncertainty over tv rights I'm sure many clubs will need to sell players to help offset the loss of tv revenue. Vive la révolution & Vive la Bri
Up to you if you dont want to renew but for all we know this guy is the right manager who has us challenging at the top end of the table Speakman has been competent 2 seasons out of 3 tho, hes signed some cracking players for us, inheritant a mess of a club (academy was failing, no sellable assets, no recruitment database etc) He turned us around so hes def been competent Now has he been in the last 12 months, no but overall he has done a good job with us so this stuff hes just an assistant academy director is a false narrative This is his biggest appointment to date for sure n one that he must nail
On a good day, we are a cracking fan base. But on a day which is even a little less good, we are terrible! Had regular arguments with people over supporting the team instead of turning on them 3 minutes into a game!
Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman added: “We are really pleased to welcome Simon to our Club. This summer, we felt it was vital to identify and recruit a goalkeeper who is capable of pushing Anthony Patterson daily, and who has additional qualities to training and match environments. Simon has a different profile to many players within our group and he is as motivated to push Anthony as he is to help our younger goalkeepers and the wider player group. We are delighted he has joined the Club.” A penny for Bishop’s thoughts
This is not how our club nor our fans are viewed at all. To say we are patient is quite a remarkable show of a lack of self awareness. We are famed for leaving the ground before full time and creating a hostile environment for our own managers. How many clubs in the top couple of flights have been through as many managers as we have in the last decade? In the last 12 months? This is not me saying we acted unfairly given what we have been served up, but we have not acted with patience. Who has been given the opportunity to fail and turn things around? The very fact that you use Moyes, a manager who led us for maybe 40 games as an example of patience speaks volumes.
Just a reminder, there's another thread to discuss transfers like Moore. Just so this doesn't get bloated with off-topic comments, and avoids duplicate posts in the other thread.
Beale wasn’t supported, not saying he was the right man as he wasn’t but I feel we need to have a fresh start and back this lad. New season new start
It's a risk for definite. Hopefully its one that pays off. I'd rather a risk than someone off the usual UK managerial merry go round though.
The extensive experience of working with young players and at least one cracking season at the top level at an underdog club interests me. It's not a sexy choice. But it might be the outstanding choice. People's distaste for the appointment seems to have warmed me up to it, I am nothing if not an argumentative bastard.
Same. Didn't really like the sound of his football when I read about it the other day. Now that a few have started moaning, I'm desperate for him to prove them wrong.
Every managerial appointment is a risk in some respect. We could have appointed Will Still in Dec, having paid £5m in compo and sacked him 12 games later. You just don't know if a manager is going to work out - look at MON and Moyes - superb careers elsewhere, but just didn't work here. Peter Reid had a great first season here, then got relegated. In today's market he would have been sacked in 1997 and we would never have had those amazing years with Quinn & Philips.
The most important backing, if it IS this person is the backing that comes from the club. If we start the season with Rusyn up front, Mundle left wing and Ekwah as CDM he will face the same problems Dodds, Beale and Mowbray did.
Thats what happens with change i suppose, some will always look at the negative side 1st before potentially taking a step back n ask why have we appointed him
