Under contract so he'll cost them loads. We want to keep him to further our own ambitions. If he goes, it'll show that the club has no serious ambitions of getting out of this division.

I find this rather strange I must say. Ipswich are a team with a decent budget/backing, and Premier League aspirations. With all due respect to Chris, is he really the sort of player they are looking to sign? To my knowledge he only had one full season at Championship level with P'Boro and even there he wasn't necessarily first choice.

Even this season, despite some cracking goals away from home, he hasn't had the initial impact that I would have liked. Or am I being too harsh?

I think that is rather true, he has not been on form like we want from him all the time, he is a great player, but he has not reached his best most of the time, he has had some great games on the otherhand and is only going to get better and better by the more games he plays this season as he is one of our best players that we currently have, we can't let him go as he is will be a very important player in the end of our season as he and Lee have a lot of experience in getting teams promoted.

I think this is just "gossip," there's no substance to the article.

There's going to be articles like this all over the place in the run up to January.

The Ipswich scout was looking at Jack Payne anyway.
