I have read them all a long time ago, but bought a new bookcase and the new box sets looked rather fancy, so picked them up again
Just finished Keep the Aspidistra flying. George Orwell. Best book ever to recommend is Catch 22 (although the film is crap) Joseph Heller. I remember being on a train in Germany reading Catch 22 and I really couldn’t stop myself from laughing out loud, something I’d never done before. Best set of books is all the Flashman tales. George Macdonald Fraser. Historically quite accurate and again, very funny.
Just received the latest John Grisham book via my local library, Camino Ghosts so I have 3 weeks before it needs to be returned. Loved every one of his books and if there's any more footy like tonight, I'll probably have it finished by weekend. Exceptional writer with the uncanny ability to captivate readers in the first couple of pages.
Found that with Martina Cole years ago, hers were all drug dealers dodgy cops and violence for the sake of it and repeat in the next book and so on.
I think I last read Jaws when I was 17. Loved it, although I was probably more influenced by the film adaptation when I read it. (Saw it at the ABC as a 10 year old. What my grandmother was thinking taking me and my two cousins is anyone’s guess). I didn’t expect Chief Brodie to be the only survivor out of the crew in the book and the entire sub-plot of the ‘ahem’ liaison between Ellen Brodie and Hooper was missing completely in the film. Still thought it was a good read though.
Who wrote it? Is the film based on the book or the book based on the film? You have me curious about it
Film was based on the book mate. The author was Robert Peter Blatty https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OK0G992/?tag=not606-21
