Yeah corners 0 - 10 - and yeah they hit the woodwork twice in 2nd half - but they didnt really have many clear cut chances
What you on about Stu...? According to the offiial site we don't play Sheffield United until the 14th Jan. Walsall, Oldham, Yeovil, Orient, Brentford, Bury and Sheffield Wednesday befor then. I know it's a cliche but, We must look to take each game as it comes. Each win is three points closer to our goal.
Yeah, I think we deserved the clean sheet and goals. I'm having a look through the Owlstalk match thread. Very complimentary of Kermorgant, Green, Solly and Wiggins so far. I wonder how Huddersfield will react to this. Obviously, we just have to keep picking up the points, but it will be interesting to see what happens after the run of 1 defeat in 46 has come to an end.
Just seen the crowd - 18000! And when you think how many Terriers (and me) couldn't come down because of the switch to Monday, that makes it even more impressive. What about the three debutants? OS is describing Russell as 'industrious' - did anybody actually see him? Ephraim took his chance beautifully, but that was about it. Parkin - one shot, great save by Hamer - snuffed out by Morrison and Taylor, as was Rhodes who was barely detectable - thank you and good night. Truth is, we didn't need our new players to be brilliant, because our teamwork is our strength. Everybody working for each other, everybody putting in a serious shift, everybody playing whistle to whistle. This brandy better kick in soon because I feel like doing back somersaults...
What a game, everyone played there socks off, well impressed with morro, solly and green, and Kermit did not stop running, hope his injury isn't too bad! And I got home in time to see pixie lotte on never mind the buzzcocks, perfect end to the day!
Just got back from the game, my new missus only lives a couple of miles from the ground. Was pretty impressed, despite hudds having a couple of chances and hitting the woodwork they never really looked like scoring. Thought we were very solid at the back and performed well. Hard to say who was MOM but it would have to be one of the back four who hardly put a foot wrong all game.
Was a great night at the valley atmosphere electric, quiality performance 1st half second half excellent deffensive display...10 corners all defended well. I cant remember enjoying a night so much at the valley for ages...just got home and i`m buzzin.
Forgot to say, watched the game in the company of an Addick called Craig, who as far as I know is the only other Charlton supporter in Tewkesbury - yes, there's two of us! Hailing from Scotland, he told me he drove Greg Shields' dad down to Sheffield to watch him make his debut for Charlton. Anyone remember him? Fine player, but plagued with injury - still playing though.
Great story Tewkes... Shields was a quality player!! One of many Charlton players to have had their career heavily hampered through injury.
He was indeed, Franco - always had loads of time - mark of a quality player. What a night, eh? Cow of a day coming up tomorrow - meeting all morning followed by a 50 mile drive and a meeting all afternoon - and you know what? I don't give a monkey's... Boy, this hangover's going to be spectacular.
I thought he did well. For sure he will replace Hughes when fit. Can do everything Hughes can do and more. When Hughes came on he booted or headed the ball away reliably enough, but I didn't notice a single clearance of his that went to one of our players. Once Russell trains his way into our pattern of play he will offer far more. I didn't notice him at all. Luckily nor did the Huddersfield defence when he took his goal neatly. Hmm, that sounds like the description of a typical Johnny Jackson performance. I was quite impressed by Parkin. More skill on the floor than I gave him credit for. He was trying to make bricks without straw all evening. Nil support from Jordan Who(?) The OS says "Hamer got something on it" which is a bit grudging. I, like Tewks, thought it was a fine save and maybe one a shorter keeper like Eliott wouldn't have made. We've won the one that matters. Give a day off next Saturday to those who want it and tell CP I have OK'd it.
Really good to see a proper battle at The Valley, roared on by a vocal crowd, we've missed these big games. Back 4 were immense, but kermit was supurb, winning so much in the air, and energetic too. Funnily, the two 'star men' BWP and Rhodes both had poor games, where Kermit and Parkin were excellent. Hogan didn't do much of note, but scored and won the free kick for the 1st goal! We panicked a bit in the second half, and could have tried to keep possession better, but that's the only criticism on an excellent night, and good advert for L1, I bet Sky were happy, a top of the table L1 clash, and they were there to see the unbeaten run come to an end
The Huddesfield OS praises the keeper too, saying he did superbly well for the save! A very fair match report incidentally http://www.htafc.com/page/MatchReport/0,,10312~58494,00.html
Rhodes was innocuous that's for sure. However, how you can describe BWP's performance as poor is beyond me...!! I thought he lead the line very well and was instrumental in the second goal. All night long he consistently made intelligent runs, whilst taking up awkward positions in the gap between the FB and CB. His role tonight was a selfless one. Due to his natural goal scoring ability he was earmarked for special attention from the off (as is the case in most games to be fair). He must’ve known that would be the case tonight, but he continued to work hard on pulling the Huddersfield defenders out of position at every opportunity. In doing so he created space for those around him. Well done BWP for a selfless yet cunning display in the art of being a good front man…
Well, have just got home to deepest Cambridgeshire after one of the best nights at the Valley in recent memory. We've beaten our nearest rivals for promotion, we've broken their unbeaten run, we've put to the sword the myth that we cant win in front of the cameras. Next up the destroying the myth that manger of the month is a curse? If anyone can do do it CP can. I was also amused to hear my wife singing to the Huds supporters about where their record could go! I think she got carried away with the spirit of the evening! Great attendance for a Monday night looks like Saturday matches could draw bigger crowds as well. Just hope that Kermorgant is ok, he was the lynchpin of most of our attack tonight.
BWP and Rhodes are goalscorers, BWP had one chance, Rhodes had none... credit to our Centre-backs. Kermit was fantastic, Parkin got knackered. But MOM for me was Solly... just can't believe this is the same guy who was shoved at left-back last year... class act. Said before it feels different this year... for some reason it never felt like we were going to let it slip tonight... great showing by the lads. A word for the industrious Russell, thought he was excellent first half, some of the tackles he got in and headers he won really helped us deny Hudders any time at all on the ball. Shame about his injury but hopefully not too bad. 7 points clear, with a jaunt in the cup to come (though assume both loanees are ineligible so don't know who'll play).
