Take it or leave it if anyone is betting on Royal Ascot. Arctic Thunder ew, for me. “Dashing Darcey will break from gate 25 and once again he will be ridden by Silvestre De Sousa. I am very happy with the horse's condition, I think he came out of his most recent win in good shape. I think the ground will be quicker this afternoon, and I think he still has to prove that he is as effective on a fast surface. But I am very happy with him, I think that he has a nice profile for this race, and hopefully he will prove competitive and give us reason to get excited.” - Roger Varian “ARCTIC THUNDER jogged up well this morning and I am really happy with him. The conditions should be ideal for him with the extra furlong and we know he goes well on the track. I’m not concerned about the draw and he is in a great place at the moment. It is a very competitive race but I am hopeful that he can run really well and be very competitive.” - Andrew Balding Both of our contenders sit on acompetitive weight of 8-13 with official ratings of 92. ARTIC THUNDER is already proven on the track and should have no problem stepping back up to a mile under David Probert, who has ridden him to victory on both of his winning starts. DASHING DARCEY has yet to run at Ascot, but is unbeaten over 1 mile and his impressive start at Haydock latest suggests he will be very competitive. Both of our trainers have won this in recent years, with the Andrew Balding and David Probert duo taking home the trophy in 2014, and Roger Varian with KHALOOSY in 2020.

Forget Gosden’s lame excuses about Interval not quite getting home on the stiff track and do remember that she blew both her races this year at the start. If she won’t go for anyone but Frankie they may as well pack her off to the paddocks. If they wait for the Nassau they will have to hope it is not soft again. More likely she goes for the Falmouth. Today looks like a bad day for punters unless they fancy short prices. Timeform have Whistlejacket 9lb clear on their ratings in the Norfolk for the O’Brien/Moore partnership so plenty will steam in at cramped odds. I would be happy to oppose Diamond Rain in the Ribblesdale given the indifferent form of her yard and she has never encountered today’s quicker ground. I would also be happy to oppose Kyprios, who has scored two penalty kicks this term and may find that he will be replaced by Illinois as the yard’s stayer next term. With three of the nine in the Gold Cup from the Gosden barn, it is a race to give a miss. I will bypass my watch list horse Qirat in the Britannia as I expect they will go a suicidal pace, they are bound to split into at least two groups and he is drawn high. That only leaves the Hampton Court but London Gold Cup winner King’s Gambit is too short for my money stepping up to pattern company; and the Prix Du Jockey Club runner up First Look probably wants some give underfoot and we might find in a couple of months time that this year’s renewal was not a great one as the first four home were drawn in the four inside stalls and a couple of the fancied horses underperformed. Since Taraj was bought on Monday for £480k, new connections will be hoping that the Leopardstown Derby Trial third can pay back £85k of it today – the ground is not a problem and the winner was third in the Derby. So I can make an early start looking at Friday...
Interested to see how Gallantly goes in the King George V Handicap. He was talked up a lot as one of the 2yos to watch at Ballydoyle last year but has not live up to that lofty reputation, albeit he's not exactly performed badly with 1 win and 2 seconds from 4 runs.
I think that's 0.5 profit. Unless you count the 14/1 7 places which would make it slightly more please log in to view this image .
