I only started really reading Stephen King after James Herbert died. I liked Herbert’s brand of British/English horror after reading The Fog and The Rats as a young teenager. Whilst not in the same league as King he still wrote a fairly decent story.
I didnt know it was a vampire story, which made it even better, I gave it to my daughter without her knowing also, she said it terrified her
Just finished reading Putin's prisoner by Aiden Aslan and Killer in the Kremlin by John Sweeney. Plus, for something less grim, My Wrexham Story by Paul Mullin (Ghost written by John Woodhouse) - though this took me longer to read that the other two put together as it was a bit jumbled and quite tedious. I struggle to keep focus so tend to read a few books at a time just to stop my brain seizing. I'm about to start on Red Winter - one of the Jack Ryan series, but written by Marc Cameron after Tom Clancy's death, just to purge my brain a little as the other books were so poorly written.
I too have read a lot of Stephen King. The Stand should be considered a masterpiece, it is fabulous. IT is almost as good, just a brilliant story. I might have to revisit some of his newer stuff. Sounds like he has found some form again. I think the last one I read which got me was Needful Things, or maybe Imsomnia. Seemed to be drifiting a bit at that point.
I am reading 4 books, they are all called the same with a sub title. There are lies, deception, treacherous, were the rich work together to increase their wealth. The poorer in society eke out a living if their lucky. All 4 are called Manifesto with authors with vivid imaginations. Sorry couldn't resist @Evil Jimmy Krankie
Finished reading Fairy Tale last week sat by the pool on holiday, started it June 2023 sat by the same pool on holiday. It’s a great read but it took me far too long to get through it.
Ultra processed people - Chris van tulleken a worrying and horrifiying insight on the food we eat, and effects on our bodies. Long story short, almost everything we’re eating has been ultra processed to **** and our bodies are suffering for it.
Environmental factors will come into play but all this processed ****e we put in our bodies must be impacting the cancer explosion that we’ve seen. I only eat meat from the butchers and get a lot of my veg, potatoes and eggs from the lads at the allotment. Very rare I’m in a supermarket.
Just bought the Lord of the Rings box set of 4 books, the Rats 4 book collection and the original Jaws book the film is based on. That should keep me quiet for a bit
Have you read Lord of the Rings? It is a wonderful story, but certainly of its time. Just cast aside any thoughts of the modern world and dive in wholeheartedly, the rewards are immense.
Very rar Try not to eat any processed food, we make nearly everything with fresh ingredients if we can. I totally agree with jammy that that is where most of the cancers are coming from, imo anyway.
If you have any garden space, consider growing your own food and/or getting chickens, started doing it a few years ago and wouldn't go back now. It's easier than you think but will require a little trial and error and you don't need to put as much time into it as you'd imagine, these things are mostly passive and reward you at the end of summer. We're still eating apples (apple pie, crumble etc) from last year that we jarred.
