When I went to Argentina I was working as a delivery driver to small bakeries, and I also worked weekends selling seafood round the pubs for a year to pay for it. They all knew why I was away for 5 weeks, so you can imagine the stick I got when I came back. It was relentless. You get used to it as a Scotland fan.
The Jocks are stinking the tournament out. Celebrating a lucky 1-1 draw with Switzerland like they have just won the Jules Rimet trophy. A real small team mentality.
Great improvement from the Germany game. We're still alive, which looked unlikely after the first game. Why not celebrate? Better than the England fans who won their first game to top their group but moaned about it and had a pop at the manager. Which set of fans have made friends and which set stink the place out?
They are now out based on the goal difference. Tbf the second half I saw was more entertaining than posts from Boomerang Billy and Kojak Scotland deserved the three points, three more than Pinky and Perky have on our cuddly membership. Tchau.
The Scotland team may not be doing so well (though this evening was definitely better) but their fans are doing the tournament great credit. One point and an outside chance going into the last group match is where many of us may have expected their team to be. I'm glad they are no out after just two games. Remember there are the best four '3rd places' to get into the last 16. A win over Hungary will be needed though. A tall order, but it isn't over 'till it's over.
I was not aware of the best four. If Scotland perform like they did today I reckon they could claim a place. A lot of it's.
It's an odd feature of this tournament. They wanted a 'World Cup' style format I suppose - a knockout round of 16 before the quarter-Final round. But they didn't want to have 32 teams in the group stages. Too many games and too many minnows I guess. So we're going from 24 group stage teams down to 16 in the first knock-out round. So only 8 teams will be eliminated after all the group games; the six who finish 4th in their group plus the two poorest 3rd place teams. It's actually harder to get eliminated than it is to qualify (in a way).
I thought Scotland fought and ran and gave 100 per cent. If they do that the next game I am sure the Scotland fans will be happy.
