This falls into my theory Speakman is toast. My original thoughts were KLD replaced Speakman in the hunt for the new coach, relieving Speakman of his duties. Speakman was downgraded to review the u21 squad, this article backs up this role. There are no quotes on coach recruitment or first team recruitment.

I believe Speakman will be removed in August/September after a handover to the new DoF. Removing him at the end of the last season would have been seen as a sign of weakness, the club being rudderless etc.

We shall see.

 

To be fair would be strange for him to comment on head coach or player recruitment in a statement about our 3rd (or fourth?) choice goalkeeper leaving

Yeah, but if you read the article, it brings up the concerns of coach and player recruitment. These points must have been mentioned and no comments received. Just my thoughts in overdrive.

That article just takes Speakmans quote from the Alex Bass statement I'm pretty sure, don't think they've directly asked him anything

why would he be called the sporting director and asked to comment on a first-team player's exit if he was leaving?

 

So I await any Speakman comments on coach and player recruitment... we shall see.

 

He's on gardening leave, why would they call him Groundsman?

 

Not sure why we would put him on gardening leave when this summer is probably one of the biggest coming up

 

He'd end up putting French grass in anyway that won't grow until next season
