And tries to apply a time limit to 'imminently', which is deliberately vague. I mean, in geological terms, something that's going to happen in two weeks is definitely imminent.
Hope is a problem in my opinion. He needs to have more than hope we are close, in his position, or something is wrong.
I still feel we could be missing a golden chance here. Imagine we had a chance to sign Clough - which we did at one time - but we didn’t , and regretted not giving him his chance. I was one of the few wanting him here when he was at Hartlepool. I have the same feeling about Kevin Phillips. Would a temporary contract to Xmas really be a disaster? No matter what coach we get in, promotion is not nailed on. Could Phillips be the next Clough? In my opinion certainly worth considering. The way things are going what have we to lose?
I’ve read the anecdotes about him, the ‘crawling on broken glass etc etc’ but I’m not sure if he really did want to be our manager. I am only 57 mind so happy to be corrected.
I'd guess the presentation would be along similar lines to Father Ted's Chinese cultural awareness presentation.
Hold the back page!! It's NOT over until the fat lady sings. Reaches for beer... https://www.sunderlandafc.news/tran...s-sunderland-confirm-first-transfer-decision/ This falls into my theory Speakman is toast. My original thoughts were KLD replaced Speakman in the hunt for the new coach, relieving Speakman of his duties. Speakman was downgraded to review the u21 squad, this article backs up this role. There are no quotes on coach recruitment or first team recruitment. I believe Speakman will be removed in August/September after a handover to the new DoF. Removing him at the end of the last season would have been seen as a sign of weakness, the club being rudderless etc. We shall see.
To be fair would be strange for him to comment on head coach or player recruitment in a statement about our 3rd (or fourth?) choice goalkeeper leaving
i grew up watching Phillips, I dont want those memories to go if his skint in charge goes awfuly wrong
Yeah, but if you read the article, it brings up the concerns of coach and player recruitment. These points must have been mentioned and no comments received. Just my thoughts in overdrive.
It wasn't an interview. That article just quotes the clubs statement https://safc.com/news/team-news/2024/june/alex-bass-departs
That article just takes Speakmans quote from the Alex Bass statement I'm pretty sure, don't think they've directly asked him anything EDIT : ignore, mentioned above
why would he be called the sporting director and asked to comment on a first-team player's exit if he was leaving?
Not sure why we would put him on gardening leave when this summer is probably one of the biggest coming up
