I'm going to Royal Ascot of the morrow. Hopefully, later this morn I'll get a phone call informing me which carriage I'll be travelling down the course in just after 2 pm tomorrow afternoon...

For me though the undoubted highlight will be seeing my dear, dear old fave Pied Piper. Win, lose or draw that is going to be some honour.

Erm, I don't think there is such a thing as a 'simple' Yankee, Ron? Think I've only ever had one come-up, at good prices, that is, (when I was working in Gt. Yarmouth). Do remember the smallish local bookie was thoroughly p!ssed-off, and even thought he was going to 'get' me on some kind of limit, but to his credit, he paid out in full. Had a few Patents up, but not that many! Good luck though with your Yankee! Nowadays, I just stick with one or two singles, although sometimes I go off on a tangent with some odd efforts! Whichever way one goes, it's still tough finding winners in horse racing, that's for sure.

If it stays dry at Royal Ascot then I can see there being a few upsets as almost all the form this spring comes from easy ground thanks to climate change. <laugh>

I will give the King Charles III Stakes (formerly the King’s Stand) a miss as several of the principals in the market met in the Temple Stakes at Haydock, some race fit already and, of course, some will prefer to rattle their hooves more than others.

I think that Notable Speech will prove hard to beat in the St James’s Palace. I see no reason why Rosallion should reverse HQ form as he did not have to do anything but reproduce that form to collect in Ireland. I hold the Poulains form in no regard whatsoever so the Godolphin favourite ought to be a certainty but with the indifferent form of the Appleby team (4 winners from 13 European runners this month) it is not worth trying to buy money at shorts odds against.

As I do not touch two years olds at this time of year, that reduces my interest to the opening Queen Anne Stakes. With Interval defecting to step up to ten furlongs, her pacemaker from the Lockinge now has to prove that he did not just steal the race. The fact that Audience is not even favourite tells its own story. He definitely won’t get an uncontested lead this time and Big Rock ought to perform better than he did at Newbury; however, I think that the French raider wants soft ground and won’t be winning today. When he won the QEII last term, Facteur Cheval was six lengths second and it is hard to see him turning that around although he won the nine furlong Dubai Turf back in March. Almost half the field are horses that really should not even be in the race on form but they might get in the way of contenders that want to be held up and brought with a late run. So I would draw a line through Brave Emperor, Cairo, Flight Plan, Hi Royal and Witch Hunter. Poker Face is probably overpriced if his Lockinge run is ignored but he will need others to have an off day to feature in the finish. Maljoom has only been seen twice in two seasons and his third in a Listed race leaves him a few pounds to find with the best of these. The Aga Khan’s Dolayli drops to a mile for the first time, was fourth in the Prix d’Ispahan when last seen and half of his six wins were conditions races on the kitty litter. It is difficult to see why Docklands is a single figure price on the strength of two seconds in Listed races this season and winning the Britannia last season. So that only leaves me with the Lockinge runner-up CHARYN, third in the St James’s Palace last year, winner of the Bet365 Mile this and had no chance at Newbury when more than six lengths clear of the third.

Royal Ascot card is unbelievably tough, especially after reading QM's post! Hoping to start a small piggy-bank with a pick in the first at Stratford, a Class-5 Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle over an extended 2m2f on good ground. The Shirocco gelding, Lost In The Mist, surely has a sound chance in this affairr? Without further ado, will stick with this selection. B. Roberts (3) rides for the Martin Keighley yard.

7/2 best price in almost all places, on the ATR site.

Yes. Just can't be bothered to study these days Swanny. They still lose <laugh>. Not a fan of multiples either but it's more sensible than a L15 if one single produces a loss. The only multiple I have actually backed (with real money) was a 4 horse accumulator at the Cheltenham Festival long ago. Came in at accumulated odds of approx 100/1. But I only had a fiver on it, borrowed from my then partner (since married) as I had no cash on me and I placed the bet in a bookie's office just up the road from where we lived. Had to go upstairs for him to write me a cheque <laugh>

No piggy-bank after that lousy first effort! :(

Will just have one crack more, at Royal Ascot in the 14:30 in which I agree with Redcgull (sorry Red!) and go for the beautifully-bred Dolayli. Past form is just about all on the synthetic surfaces, so he just might show something over a mile at RA on the current fast ground? We'll see. Mickael Barzalona rides for the Henri Graffard stable. Jockey certainly a big plus.

    SP will suffice!
