Job done. Disappointing second half but a win is a win and nice to keep a clean sheet given our defence is the biggest worry. Despite their pressure second half still restricted them well and they didn't create clear cut chances. Seemed to me a bit of complacency set in. When we scored I said to my pal we should win it comfortably now and it seemed the team thought it was a matter of when not if. The amount of simple passes which were misplaced was ridiculous. Foden seemed the main culprit and thought he was very disappointing overall; if he doesn't do it for us this summer I've a feeling he never will. Bellingham really is stupidly good isn't he? Mental he's only 20. Thought Guehi had a good game too. Trippier looks like the weak link to me.
Peeps are talking like this is all part of a master plan take it easy, ease into the tournament then BOOM we hit our peak seen it all before
If we win the tournament it'll be despite Southgate not because of him. I want us to do it, but if we do that dickhead will be hovering in the background waiting to take over at ours. It's a real dilemma.
Foden needs to be played where he will be most effective... or saved to come on there as a sub ... sure he wasn't helped by the left back situation but that really isn't the point - I'm just not buying that Eze wouldn't have been way more effective in that left sided position tonight ...
The plan was for him to occupy the defenders by staying up top and to leave space for Bellingham, Foden and Saka. Some games he will drop deep and spray the ball around like KdB, others he will stay high and solely be a striker.
Despite having a world class striker ... 'Occupying' defenders is the new hat-trick ... apparently... ...now don't get me wrong... those defenders needed occupying ... indeed, when we play the much better sides we may need to employ a tag team of occupiers
This is the kind of english delusion Liverpool fans of the 90s would be proud of. Youve won one thing about 60 years ago and even that was a dodgy goal on home soil. The entitlement is really off the charts this euros tho so im looking forward to the inevitable disappointment for the nation. Again.
Was a bit nervy second half, but I thought England did pretty well last night. Scored the goal and then defended well when we were under pressure It wasn't a brilliant performance, and we gave the ball away too cheaply at times which invited more pressure, but these are areas we can work on for the next games But like Slurps said, it's just the first game and hopefully we grow into this tournament. Main thing is that the lads have got the first game out of the way with a win
Bit sad for you to be looking forward to revelling in the disappointment of others Sucky tbh - take a lesson from Klopp, he was always magnanimous no matter how many times he was disappointed ... and there were many ... Last night was another reality check - and coming on the back of another good one against Iceland. I raised the question after the German game as to who from the England team would get into the German team - judging on last night's showing and based on the respective performances of the two, I could only say that, for me, only Bellingham for sure - possibilities for Walker and Rice - and Saka if he'd managed to continue his first half showing (which he plainly didn't - full-back totally dominated the second) - just to be clear - only basing this on the first games ... for now ...
