How does Southgate consistently get these players to play within themselves against inferior opposition, it’s baffling.
Love your insights mate Make me look like a caveman staring at the tv thinking why doesn’t this work. Just hope this shoehorning of foden isn’t another Lampard/Gerrard debate for the next decade
That's my bug bear with Kane - dropping deep. I may be old fashioned but I like my centre forwards up to bullying the back line and playing in that middle area between the boxes
He's played right across that front three for England over the last few years. Never done anything. Looks a world beater for Man City but it's never worked at international level. Sometimes it just doesn't work and what look like poorer players are more effective. Is Gordon a better footballer than Foden? No chance. He'd do better here though.
One thing I will say about Foden, and it’s the same as Grealish. They’re normally playing against teams who park the bus and it’s intricate passing between the lines to break teams down, Pep isn’t afraid to get players forward all of whom can play those neat tidy passes and I don’t think it’s the same for England.
Have we ever seen him have a good game in midfield though mate? I reckon he’d be a quality old fashioned winger in a 4-4-2 but not sure being in the middle is where he’s suited.
The biggest issue has not been adapting to Serbia's tactical changed at HT. They pushed up higher, pressed with more intensity and England didnt do anything to adapt to it
Hes obviously not been anywhere near his best but i suspect hes being kept on as he will help out defensively and he has the ability to carry the ball up the pitch n draw fouls - like he did a few minutes ago Plus he knows what its like to play in big tight games
Think we could've done with some pace either side of Kane second half, where at times we could just hoof it up the pitch and have them chase it to turn Serbia around
