Now somebody tell me that the general quality of players hasn’t dropped over the last number of years.

 

I don’t. I think it’s the fact that managers are given signings as opposed to signing players to fit in with their philosophy.

It is why having Howe making big decisions on signings is important. He has a style of play in mind. And only certain types of players fit in with that.

Its why I think if Willock can stay fit next season he will be colossal for us.

Joselu, Weighurst and Perez are not international quality no matter who the manager is nor what the tactics are.

I’m not saying they are bad players but it’s all relative. Think Holland 1970 to 1978. Think Spain 2008 to 2014. These 3 wouldn’t get anywhere near those squads.

Standards, like nostalgia, aren’t what they used to be.

 

Weighorst I have always rated quite highly. Perez was good for us.

Joselu is now a cult hero for Real Madrid.
