A degree education in itself is not the problem. That is just stupidity to think that way. Farage doesnt have one and he is a massive problem right now.

The real problem is the amount of people going to university, it is way too high and they are getting a poor deal. For that we can blame the last Labour govt and its HE policies. Blair wanted 50% of kids into university, without any acknowldegement of what that actually meant for the 50%.

The HE system is on the brink in this country due to successive govt policy. Brexit and now Tory immigration policy has caused huge damage. In some awful way it may be a silver lining if we end up with less daft degrees and more apprenticeships / degree apprenticeships.

 

For all those saying we need to move towards insurance funding of the NHS, if we went that way, my dad wouldn't be here as he wouldnt get / couldn't afford insurance.

I wouldn't have had the amazing service I had not 3 weeks ago.

Those in charge need to speak to those on the ground to see the real issues. Paramedics have to use tablets to upload notes for the hospital, they don't always work. I had an x ray at Durham, that couldn't be sent to James Cook at Hartlepool because of "procedure and rules" so I had to have another one at James Cook.

If we all have to pay a little bit more to ensure everyone has access to the care they need, is it really such a big price to pay?

I have a different view on ‘daft degrees’ though I think apprenticeships /degree apprenticeships are also fine for those who fit them best.. I think we should develop young people’s brains and passions, whatever they may be, including creativity. More joint honours so they can do two subjects and diversify their thinking. We're too focused on training machines who benefit the economy when the economy mostly benefits those who already have. Let young people have good wellbeing as long as possible before they become capitalism machines. Just tax the rich to invest in young people’s wellbeing. I can’t think of a better reason for doing it personally and I think in turn the economy and society will benefit from young people feeling well who have interests and opinions. .

 

The increase is down to an aging generation though. The Tory Covid policy of killing old people in homes and reinfecting survivors at pub meal time may have saved them money.

Edit: The Survation poll for Best for Britain, published by The Sunday Times, predicted the Tories would win just 72 seats in the next parliament, compared with 456 for Labour.

The result would give Labour a majority of 262 seats - far surpassing the landslide Labour achieved by Sir Tony Blair in 1997 - while the Liberal Democrats would pick up 56 seats, Reform seven and the Greens one seat.

 

I'd thought Penny Mordaunt was a hint of decency and integrity is a sea of greed and corruption ...

... but her performance in the televised debate was typical of her colleagues.

She trotted out all of the same 'strident' rhetoric and tried to shout over everyone else, so much for debate.

It seems there's more time and effort being spent on the clandestine leadership contest than the general election which is a little disrespectful to the electorate. The candidates look a nasty bunch of the typically sly and selfish that this administration has become to be seen as.

The landslide achieved by Blair was the most seats won by any party ever.

The suggestion here is that this labour win considerably more seats than any government in history.

The lib dem and reform number of seats are massively exaggerated in that poll. Probably an indication of the shy Tory vote.

 

Polls rarely get the result right but are great for debate. I'm unaware of their methods and any possible shy voting. Looking forward to the 5th.

The Reform candidate in Houghton and Sunderland South works for the NHS. Nigel Farage is on record as wanting to abolish the NHS and bring in a private healthcare system that people would have to have insurance for like in the USA. You couldn't make it up

Voting is always a case of what other bullshit you're willing to put up with to get some of what you want.

More and more people are figuring out that both the big parties are more bullshit than policy, so where do they go.
