Wouldn't shock me at all if he ended up here. He wanted to wait and see if he got the Burnley job so pulled out of the running here, but we still haven't appointed someone so I wonder if he'll try to re-enter.

Would be a great fit for us, I know you don't agree, not what Burnley will be looking for.

I suppose it'd be understandable if he sacked us off for a chance at Burnley as it shows ambition and you want that from your manager. It'd be a shame if we missed out on him as a result and ended up with someone weaker though.

Way I see it is a bloke who was unemployed applied for two jobs. He got interviews for both, the first one he'd heard bad things about one of the managers, but was still interested. The second one, the company was spending more money and he'd probably get paid more.

He wanted to see how the interviews went with both before making a decision.

Think most people would do the same.

I'm not sure he'd have had that negative experience of being interviewed by us, I think it's been overstated. I don't believe Speakman is a nightmare to deal with or that the new coach can't bring their own team in.

I mostly agree, but he'd have heard about Mogga's criticisms in the press conferences managing in the league at the same time. He'd have also seen that Beale wasn't allowed (or so it would look) to bring his own staff in.

Either way, and whoever it is, surely it has to be resolved before they report back for pre season the week after next.

I was never sure with Mowbray whether his criticisms were justified or if it was more that he was used to managing a certain way and he didn't really fit into our setup despite having loads of positives.

I think Beale said that he was planning/allowed to bring his own team in, he just didn't get enough time to do it. Could be wrong but I think that's accurate.

As you say it has to be sorted soon. I'm not as panicky as most but there's no denying it's time.

Personally I think it would be a great appointment.

So much experience at levels far higher than the championship. And by far better than any other candidate previously linked.

It seems the Sunderland fanbase are crying out for a foreign manager, no matter what their experience or previous managerial history.

If the name sounds exotic, he must be good, despite never managing in a serious European league and despite no one actually ever hearing of him before <laugh>

Before sheff weds appointed Danny rohl, they had Xisco Munoz who was a spectacular fail.

Just because they are foreign and have a sexy name, it doesn’t mean they are good managers.

Give me a Lampard, Hodgson, Neil, Mowbray over 1 of these unheard of and unsuccessful foreign managers we continue to be linked with, every day of the week.

He’s 77 soon. How much longer can he realistically manage for? Would be a silly appointment imo. No chance of it happening anyway.

Even if it for was 1 or 2 seasons, it would be positive for the club.

Most managers don’t last beyond 2 seasons anyway.

Will Still who was universally wanted by Sunderland fans, lasted 18 months at Reims.

Didn’t Roy Hodgson leave Palace because of his bad health?

Are we seriously discussing Roy Hodgson? **** me, the mental damage caused by our head coach search is greater than I thought

Nacho he is a nightmare to deal with, he just wants everything his way, inc who stays part of 1st team coaching.
If it is before Thursday, he will say in his interview, there have been loads of rumours and most of it was untrue, we have kept focused on our target all through the process.
    And now we have him.
He will work within our model and we wish him all the best.
The script will have been gone over and over, probs practising in front of his mirror.
Please God let it be finished, it's affecting fans mental health

Think I’ve hit a stage of pure apathy now, I’ll pretty much accept anyone just so this whole saga is over and we can concentrate on the window instead

The club can’t even tweet about Father’s Day without getting pelters, I know it’s a vocal minority but really risking this turning toxic and hindering the start of the season if they don’t pull their finger out asap
