At the risk of sounding like a repetitive boring ****er, adding a solid first team operator with shared power at the season end and we’re not too bad. Leave it as it was and we were asking for this. I don’t dislike KLD and there are good sides but what board leaves things alone running towards a window after such a dire season and a half of recruitment and performance at all levels. It didn’t need revolution but indecision has meant they do now. I said at season end change the DOF then recruit the coach and that’s where they ballsed up.
I doubt Speakman has a fixed term contract with an end date. He’s surely more likely to have a permanent contract with a 6 or 12 month notice period
They don’t get us do they? Niall said we got under his skin - obviously that’s not the case with this lot!
So you bring in ‘support’ with power, you add a structure/ restructure.loads of us have done it when we’ve had a problem in an organisation. It’s all possible if you’re decisive.
I don't think I've seen such indecision in the history of the club. I liked KLD's ambition and willingness to try new things, but for some reason he can't take things any further.
Personally I'm going to wait and see who we bring in as head coach and how the transfer window goes before making any further judgement on Speakman. He's done well so far barring a transfer window or two.
I’d say 3 leaning into 4. He’s not done well with the first team since the promotion window with the exception of some contract renewals and I suspect Mowbray’s relationship with players helped.
I'd say one or two personally. Not signing a proven CF has been a problem but then again they don't grow on trees and we don't know what budget we're working to. As I say I'll wait and see how things look after this window. Could be a belter for all we know.
For me - no its not acceptable at all but i also think some folk are also remembering the good that speakman has also done since joining us. Hes had a shocking year, we all agree on that (well most do) but he also had 2.5 good years and really got us back on track Now i get he rubs folk up the wrong way, but hes also done a hell a lot of good since joining us - which some people are now forgetting This managerial search has been a joke imo, last week was my limit - i gave them a few extra days after the statement but syill nothing, its poor!! They clearly put all their eggs in the Will Still basket - when he changed his mind theyve not had a plan B. They were willing to give Still everything he wanted, they showed flexibility with him - not sure if they are showing the same with other candidates. Now I've been told that changes are happening, i honestly dont know what those changes are - i know some have hinted at KS going (i think he probably needs to go now as i think a lot of fans have lost respect for him), some have hinted at a takeover (or selling of shares) Anyway the longer this goes the more worried i get, this is such an important time to be planning the season ahead
Feel like Speakman deserves his own thread haha. I've seen people talk about him as a bloke, I've never met him, can never judge on that so matters not to me his personality. I'm on the side that I think it's time for him to go, I think there's some posters on here who think he has enough credit in the bank (I can accept that tbf and think its unfair a lot of his very good work is dismissed) but the height of his errors the past 12 months makes me think its time for a change. What I wouldnt really understand is if he left at this point. Transfer window just opened, head coach still ongoing (I assume hes been heavily involved in it this last 4 months), if KLD no longer thinks he should run the footballing side, I dont understand why this decision wasnt made once the Sheff Wed game concluded, with a new sporting director taking over at that point. If we change him in the next couple of weeks, how would that impact our season preparations, or our head coach appointment? All feels a bit of a mess, KLD and Speakman need to get it sorted, and get us prepared as best as we can for the season kicking off. We've give them more than enough patience, its time to deliver on the head coach and recruitment front.
A very balanced opinion. He has done some good for the club with bringing some good young kids in which would tie in with his remit at Birmingham.
We’ve been weak in depth in key positions every window to me tbh. Crossing fingers Stewart of all people doesn’t get injured, pretending wingers are forwards, box to box are holding midfielders, midfielders are false 9’s. Too much gambling or ego. At least if you sign young lads play them where they belong. Within that yes there has been quality but at this point we don’t have a Clarke or Ballard emerging.
The warning signs were there early on when he claimed we had enough strength up front because Dajaku could play as a no.9.
But hes also brought good experienced players to compliment that - he just went away from that too much last summer Honestly we should be going the youth route, we should be trying to sign young exciting players as thats how we can be successful. The biggest thing for that to work is you need the right balance, you need some experienced players alongside them, you need players that are for now and not just for the future Thanks to Speakman (and others like TM) i had 1 of the most enjoyable seasons ever watching my club when we finished 6th. We were a joy to watch, ill always be thankful for Speakman n co for that season but he has also had a shocking 12 months so i get folk calling for him to leave
That's fair enough, hes obviously at his best dealing with the youth side of the club. The trouble is he's tasked with pretty much the whole football side of the club and he's out of his depth in the long run it would seem.
I’m not sure at this point how anyone rational could disagree with this, so either add to or get rid.
