Positive. Influence. In. Dressing. Room. So he will be playing just ahead of Downes in either Aribo or Smallbones place?
Yeah, I'm working on the assumption he is a rotation option for the 8 positions. Russell's quote on the club website refers to him as adding depth, too. Makes sense, given Rothwell goes back to Bournemouth now, and especially if it's true that Aribo may still go this summer.
Hopefully his wage is closer to a coaching salary than a player one given he said he felt he played too much last season (less than 900 minutes). Can't help but think this suits him far more than it does us. Feels like we're doing him a favour to allow him to be closer to home with a nice easy job and cushy salary.
Do you think honestly think the board and Martin would pursue this deal because they want to be nice to a bloke most of them have never met but used to play for the club 14 years ago?
I'm not saying we've done it for that reason. Just that I think the deal is far more beneficial to him than it is us. Sorry wasn't particularly clear.
In terms of playing then I suspect he'll be used late in games when we're winning to help keep the ball and see games out. I can't see him contributing too much outside of that Who knows what he's got to offer coaching wise. Complete unknown.
My second favourite Saints player is home. Yay. (I should add I don't see it being worthwhile for us, but hopefully I'm wrong.)
People getting angry after something that happened 10 years ago, Get over it. It's football. Embarrassing mindset. Aslong as I see commitment on the pitch and good performances then can't really complain, just another player.
I think the last bit is enough punishment for Lallana. Just another player. Should have been remembered as a club legend but now he is just another player. I hope he helps us stay up and maybe reclaims a little of the legend status.
A player that just happens to have 2 promotions, a Wembley win and a top 8 PL finish as captain on his Saints résumé.
Indeed, Hopefully he does enough for us to stay up and allow us to strengthen longer term next year with younger and better quality. But for a free for a year, can't really complain with him and his experience. Lallana was my fav player 10 years ago, sadly he ruined it.. But that's football and won't be held in such high esteem.
Most people are questioning what he can offer in comparison to the wage he will command rather than talking about him leaving as far as I can see. I highly doubt people would be excited about signing a 36 year old with history of injury problems, and who played less than 900 minutes last season, if he hadn't have played for us before.
