And if I were him I would take it. Footballers earn a silly amount of money anyway, but at his age, this will give him stupid money - probably 4-5 years Saints salary in one year. Good luck to him if he does it.

Maybe but money is only one consideration he has to make. Does he want to move to the Middle East with a completely different lifestyle? The move isn't for everyone - Henderson hated it for example.

Agreed, but 1-3 years in the Middle East and he will genuinely never have to work again and will set up his wife and kids for life.

I know money isn’t a motivator to everyone, but 1-3 years of ‘pain’ is a lifetime of gain.

That said, I know it isn’t good to be from the LGBT community and in the Middle East - genuine question, is it the same being black?

It’s not the same. It isn’t illegal to be black in the Middle East.

The marquee players get those multipliers and beyond; a modest signing like Che a lot less. Probably down the bottom (first page) of this list, in the Demarai Gray and Moussa Dembele bracket.

Yes it would be enough money that he wouldn't have to work again, but so would another PL contract. As he is a free agent, he could easily sign a 4 year deal on £50k+, that's £10m! I know that'll be taxed but you also get all the bonuses and signing on fees. Not to mention he has just had 4 years at Saints on over £30k/week too.

I know its hard to say until you are in that position, but if I was already a multi-millionaire then I'd rather the £10m contract and another 4 or 5 years at the top level in England and not disrupt my young family than the £20m contract and have to either live away for years or move your family out to Saudi.

The fact that Che would come on a free would bump him up though. I could see one of those sides offering him £150k+ per week at least. Best he'll get in the PL is probably around £80k to £90k per week (unless some team is desperate)

I may not earn the salary of an EPL footballer but l tearn four times what l would take home if l worked in London. My family are in Romsey and l am in Riyadh. I have no regrets, sure, l miss them, but I retire much sooner, far more wealthier and with the knowledge they are well set when my time is up.

I am going to take a wild guess that you aren't already a multi-millionaire that could retire tomorrow if you wanted?

If I was offered 4 times my salary out in Saudi I would take it for a few years too. But that's because my annual salary is a similar level to what Che would earn in a week if he stayed in England.

Switching the Premier League for the Saudi League is like leaving the NBA for whatever the British equivalent is. Why would any self-respecting footballer do it? Especially in their peak years. At 33 years old I get it, but not 27.

How 50k a week isn't enough for someone is just insane.

“Could retire” is making a lot of assumptions. Notably that footballers are good at managing money. It seems they are slightly better than NFL players who go bankrupt post retirement at a very high rate

Depends on how grounded they are and what their expenditure is like. For most of us we can’t imagine spending that amount or being able to. But people do. Wasn’t there a story about Rashford wrecking a car that cost the price of a house and shortly after getting an even more expensive one? I’m sure I saw that the other day

It almost becomes a different world and mindset when you earn, as you say, most people’s annual salary in a week.

Another factor is whether or not he is married to his partner - if he isn’t then they won’t be able to live together in Saudi Arabia

I mean yeah I didn't really mean Che could retire and not change his lifestyle at all. My point was more when you are already insanely wealthy, the concept of moving away from your family for even more money has much less appeal then it does for people earning "normal" money.

I wish l had a few million in the bank, but regrettably not. However, l could retire now if l wanted but l am planning one more year. The point l was trying to make, and not doing it very well, it's all about personal choice. I took the job here because my skill sets fit this region, so if l have to work l might as well max it out for doing the very same job in the UK. Che may have the same atattitude. As for his family, they could live very comfortably and it's one hour from Dubai by plane.
