The crack I've heard is that Cifuentes is a MLF and the £250K only applies if Sunderland approach QPR. It's £900K for other clubs. Seriously though, you wouldn't think we would be prepared to a pay out a lot. We'll see anyway.
How are you selling the job to him? No say in transfers, not a massive budget, average managerial tenure under KLD about 8 months. Bearing in mind he's at a club where he's highy rated in our division.
I don't really see why we'd be willing to spend on players in order to grow the club and make money in the future, but not for the head coach position.
Think we paid a bit less, €750k (£635k) if memory serves. True, but if he isn't doing the business and pressure mounts to get rid you're looking at money being chucked away, which is likely one of the motivations for taking an unemployed coach.
If someone is offered the job and he says “I’ll just need a bit of time to see if I can find something better”, I’d just say thanks, but we’ll look elsewhere as well.
Spent over £3m on Mundle and Hjedle in the winter window neither of whom have really had an impact yet wouldn’t pay that in compensation for Still in January or Rohl at the end of season. Would’ve loved Rohl here can’t believe he’s signed a new contract with them they must be throwing mega money at him.
But by the time Burnley have interviewed Rosenoir and any others, then made a decision it could be another 2 weeks. If they then choose Rosenoir then we have wasted that time so imo we have done the right thing, as it looks like it could turn into another Still/Lens situation. Lesson learned.
Especially when we've seen with Kompany and Maresca that a good Head Coach secured for long enough and not sacked, can actually have a high sell on value like players do.
A very good academy director, as he has already proved at Birmingham and here. Clearly the DOF role at a club above League One level is a step too far for him, in a similar way to Dodds in the Head Coach role. Ellis Short was very ambitious for the club, but in Maggie Byrne, he employed the wrong person to implement his plans. The same thing is happening now. KLD needs to find a more experienced and capable DOF.
The more I think when i've settled down it's clear we just asked Rosenior for a decision asap but he wants to wait for Burnley so has pulled out. It was said by Sunderland echo etc that we have multiple candidates that we are speaking too this week. Hopefully we get one sorted
you see a coach you want and he would welcome the move, one you are willing to bend your own rules for then you go get him, same with players and back room staff... you do not wait six months hoping to get them on a cheaper deal, we all saw how that panned out with mville. i like KLD and what he has done so far, i even like most of what speakmen has done previous to this year anyway, i do not like the way everything now appears to be a struggle, keeping hold of players and replacing with at least some on par and replacing a coach after a bad choice...i do not think TM was sacked so much as he demanded players and was left feeling there was no other alternative but to leave. KLD, KS and others need to take note, this is no longer a club trying to get out of the third div, it is now a club hopefully aiming for the premier league and with that comes a different approach, one that does not mean scrapping 'the model' but one that allows enough flex to improve as the club needs. this needs a 'this is what we want, what do you want' situation with a happy middle ground reached, the players have stood firmly with the club so far now the club needs to reward this loyalty with a fast appointment and the promise of the needed players.
