Im expecting it is to do with money, too many holes to fill and not enough cash. Cheaper to give McCarthy a year extension or something (even if on big wages) than to sign a new keeper, especially as the club clearly like Bazunu so will want him back as number 1 when he’s fit. Anyway sounds like ball is in McCarthys court and if he wants to sign whatever the extension on the table is
Get a keeper in on loan then. We’ve seen how important a good GK is and we know what we have isn’t good enough for the PL.
It doesn't actually say anything about Macca being first choice or that we won't sign another GK. It purely says we have someone lined up if he doesn't sign. How do we know this player is a first choice GK or a back up GK? I would imagine Alex or mystery GK will be the backup and we would sign a loan GK as first choice while Baz is out. But I am just guessing.
Because McCarthy is unlikely to sign a contract as a back up goalkeeper (on a back up keeper wage). Especially for only one year as people here keep proposing I expect the only chance he signs a one year deal is on first team wages as first choice. Perhaps even a higher one than his last PL deal. He is going to want as much guaranteed money as possible (they all do to be fair). That isn’t going to be a one year as a backup here
Macca is a solid enough GK but he is not the future and is not really good enough with his feet for Martin's style and I would prefer a clean break and see a new first choice signed. It is such an important position, especially at the top level and I don't think that the club should skimp on it and try and save money, a good keeper is the base of the spine of the team and could mean vital extra points over a season.
An 18 year old who plays in the national league presumably is a one for the future signing rather than someone who'd come in to play.
So won’t be us then. Would need to sell 2 or 3 players to raise the money needed for Broja, can’t see us wanting him that badly
