By Alan Nixon Liam Rosenior is set for a second round of talks with Sunderland as they close in on a managerial appointment. Rosenior will get down to the crucial details with the Black Cats over budget and staffing after an initial interview last week. The former Hull City boss had a Zoom chat on Thursday evening with the seven man team looking to find the right solution to for their vacancy. Rosenior was an initial target when the season ended but was keen to listen to other offers. However Sunderland are now emerging as the best available to him. And after Sunderland failed to land some of those they wanted - and others are in work - Rosenior rises back up their list. QPR boss Marti Cifuentes is favoured by one key Black Cats official but he has a six figure compensation figure on his head.
I If we really want Cifuentes and think he's the man 6 figures is pennies. As someone mentioned earlier Hjelde was £2,000,000
Goalscoring record hasn't been great. I think I'd be hoping for a Roberts/Clarke situation with him, he has the attributes it just hasn't clicked with all these loans. Hopefully a permanent home and some development work and he could start to find the net like he did in City's youth sides.
I fully believe our number 1 target since Mowbray left was Still however his release clause in December was unrealistic and we moved to appoint Beale (unfortunately). We then sought out Maric who was due to leave Bayern, Still then became available and we decided to go after him. We got advanced with Still who agreed to join us, Lens job became available and Still had his head turned and decided to make himself look good by briefing the press. We went back to Maric which by this time Kompany had taken over and wanted him to stay. In effect we have been working down the list since start of June, which LR became available in May. Hindsight, we should’ve just appointed Maric and left Still to play his games elsewhere but the club ultimately wanted still which has set us back a lot. I think LR will be a success if given the tools to do the job, ie a more experienced squad and a striker or 2. cue cut and paste Copley and co getting briefed that Rosenior is no longer under consideration
With respect to us all, no matter who they appoint NOW, they will say he was our original choice, it's funny how things are starting to seep our re our recruitment process. And the real reasons we don't have 1 yet. I do honestly think the owners have set us on great foundations for the future, but hey ho this has been a shambles and it looks like someone is covering their arse.
What about his 3 backroom staff??????? Do you all think after this cluster **** of an appointment, anyone will be allowed to bring in 3 or 4 backroom staff while KS rules the roost. Here's hoping for proper changes.
Why would they say it was their original choice. When I advertised a vacancy I could interview 30 people and I would pick the best person for the job. That person was my original choice.
If you've got a Director of Football that the Head Coaches you want are wary about working with, then you've got a big problem and a big decision to make. Coaches and managers talk to each other and word gets around.
I'm getting totally lost off now. So,MC is still in the frame, but wants Gus as DoF? What about LR,is he gone?
