I was going to suggest this would make US politics the laughing stock of the free(ish) world, but I suppose that nag ran off long ago. I know we're not great either, but at least our lot are just completely incompetent.
You laughed at the US for electing Trump and then elected Boris. At least you learnt your lesson. Boris won't ever be PM again.. I'm worried Trump might... And if Trump becomes President we might never have another president with any other name
Well, maybe a teensy bit... Look, I'm no psychologist, but I've said before that I think that Boris is just a public-school buffoon. Well educated but not actually very smart, who just thought politics was a bit of a jolly jape - like being made head boy or something. His experience of stumbling his way through the covid crisis has presumably taught him that politics isn't all that much fun after all. Trump isn't all that bright either, but he's cunning and ruthlessly ambitious. I'm sure he thinks he's the put-upon hero in all of this, and he can't wait to get back into it, claiming that it's all the forces of evil trying to do him down. The two aren't at all the same, imo.
I think it's a bit put on myself and while he was not unhinged and utterly narcissistic I do think all thst matters to Boris is Boris.

Mr Sunak vowed to axe stamp duty for first-time buyers on homes up to £425,000 after a fiery BBC debate between seven candidates, in which Labour’s Angela Rayner and the Tories’ Penny Mordaunt clashed over taxes, defence and the NHS.
It's comically transparent when political parties come up with vote-grabbing promises of policies that they'd never even consider implementing if they were securely in power, and probably aren't achievable anyway.
Historically this sort of thing was reserved for the Monster Raving Loony Party and Count Binface, it's the world we're living in that theirs now look more credible (and probably more appealing) than what the Tories are coming out with.
Typical Tory move.... If a first time buyer is looking at houses above £425,000 they probably aren't struggling financially. Author they appreciated not having to pay stamp duty, they can clearly afford to.
Plus lahdahn is usually voting Labour more than tory so they are doing nothing to encourage them up norf to see them as anything but for rich scumbags Which they are.
But I’m not sure why that’s an issue? It’s houses up to 425k. So anyone struggling will be included? Are you suggesting it’s better if they say any house up to 250k? What would be only pandering to the rich would say houses over 450k don’t pay stamp duty
Well, it's not a issue for most as, like you say, if the house is under £425k then it's stamp duty free anyway. It was more about it being a typical Tory move, which is what I initially said #apologyaccepted
You said if someone is buying a house over 425 then prob aren’t struggling. Not really the point though. It’s helping people buy houses for first time. Down south a 2 bed house is 300-350k, so that stamp duty will be massive help for a lot of first time buyers. Problem is in north going to be a lot cheaper but you can’t set a policy that says if you’re north of Watford you can pay stamp duty over 200k but south that’s increased to £350k.
