True but that man cave is dedicated to great Leeds teams of the past. No interest in putting up photos of players that won’t be around a wet week. And I know that’s the way football is now and if we’re going to sell 18 year old gems while offering new contracts to crocks and over the hill players there no future whatsoever
I'd sell Archie tbh if it's a huge fee. It's unfair to hold him back. 49 matches and 2 assists. If someone offers 45 million I'm not sure we can say no. It would work for everyone involved.
How anyone could accept selling our brightest prospect for many years after barely a season beats me. We’d be better entertaining ourselves playing monopoly than this supposed sport of football
Genuine question, how good do we really think Archie is? He’s done a brilliant job at right back, less so in midfield. I see a great attitude, good athleticism and engine. I’ve not been in awe of his skill and passing. For his age he’s fantastic but some kids mature earlier. How high do we think his ceiling is? Honestly not knocking him, I don’t know the answer, I think it’s often harder to tell with central midfielder’s than wingers/strikers.
No way of finding out without seeing him perform at a higher level. We have loads not good enough for the pl so let them off but don’t sell the one who could be top class.
This is a very good point. The clubs chasing him is to play him where, as a midfielder or right back? He would be better off here playing another 46+ game season for his development than bench warming at a Liverpool for example. He also doesn’t want to become another Shackleton, a player with no real fixed position.
I'm not saying we should sell him off. I'd love a local born Leeds fan like Gray to stay and thrive here. All I'm saying is £45 million for a player with 2 assists, no goals, in 50 games would be a no brainer if it was just a random player and not local boy Archie. please log in to view this image
He played most of the season at right back out of position so a bit of a harsh assessment of his performance in my view.
not advocating selling him fella. Just wondering if his name wasn’t gray whether the emotional attachment would be as strong with the fan base. There’s also the question with youngsters as to whether potential is a luxury you can afford at our current time/level. Gonna be a summer of speculation!
Not harsh. He had a great season. That's not in doubt. It was that good, some really big clubs are circling offering big opportunities in the game and big contracts. If we got a stupidly big fee, I wouldn't be too upset.
Don't forget it was only 3 seasons ago, folk were saying we have to keep hold of Gelhardt at all costs, he's the future and life blood of this club. Now it's, he's nowhere near good enough, let him go to league 1 , it's his level.
Geldhardt had his progression ruined due to injuries under Bielsa. He should have been playing in the U21 or out on loan, not warming the first team bench in case of injuries. Archie is a huge prospect, but so was Jack Clarke. Jack is back on form after a bit of a blip, would Archie benefit from world class PL coaching staff or would he progress further with another Championship season. I could probably find a dozen threads where fans complained “he isn’t a RB” and as Milky said, he didn’t stand out in midfield. He was reliable, not ever was he the worst player on the pitch, neither was he MoM
Personally I think Gelhardt suffers from the lone striker system teams play,he's not one and his style doesn't really seem to suit any position in that system. I don't want Gray gone and there should be no need to sell, with the sales of Summerville, Gnonto and possibly 1 other plugging the gap but as Emu said, If we're to be offered £45m it would need serious consideration.
Lots of young kids these days don’t support any one Thanks to FIFA games ratings and whatever, they’re far more inclined to follow players like mbappe. They latch onto whoever their favourites are playing for at any given time. I see it with my grandson and his mates. That’s the price of moving players around season after season. Beginning to hope city win their case and the game as it is now implodes. It’s become ridiculous
My 8yo grandson's the same. Loves his 'knock-off' strips with iconic names on the back. I'm still persisting - got him his Leeds goalie kit last summer, & taking him to see the Harrogate v Leeds match. Leeds are way down the list with him, & it's because we don't have a name like Messi, Mbappe etc., or that we don't play Champions League. I'll keep working on him. Managed to point my own lads to Leeds, & even got my youngest to fall in love with Partick Thistle. Not the easiest job in the world these days, though.
