I used the word, “perception” smug. I can’t remember everyone’s post, I’m good but not that good. But my perception is based on what I do remember, someone may be a miserable bastard , another may be a beacon of light, it doesn’t mean they are . A bit like you lot may think I’m a matured sage and worth listening to We all hope it’s the right man, but it’s gone on too long for a lot of supporters, I am included in that mate. I won’t make things up but I am not enamoured with the way this has been handled, not because I’m not a true supporter, but because I ****ing well care a lot about this football club. If I’m at work, chatting away nicely and some one slags us off, I change in an instant and turn into what some people may consider aggressive, when I’m really quite passive. I’ve said previously that Speakman with his corporate buzz phrases is setting himself up for a fall and is giving people ammunition.
Hasnt coached for years as far as I know. A bit at Chelsea 10 years or so ago I think. Can imagine no reason for him to have a role tbh.
I get that posters who think we’re in a bad situation may think twice before posting criticism of the club, due to the expected flak. That is a sad situation that acts as a kind of preemptive censorship on opinions that might be seen as negative. Nuance is hard to put across in online comments and people who aren’t happy with how things are going still love* the club. A lot of people (including me) do get defensive when the club is perceived to be attacked. It is tricky and I think all sides need to be mindful of other viewpoints. * though some posters do hide their love of the club quite well!
The club stated they would appoint a new manager at the end of the season so start counting from there please
It’s weird because after doing a lot more research on Jansen and Rosenior I’d prefer either of them over Still even though I was so caught up in the still hype
I was at an event at Derby County this week. Talking to some long time supporters who couldnt speak highly enough of Rosenior. So many good things they shared. If he is one of the last 2 then I am relaxed as to the quality of our candidates.
I would be happier with Jansen. Rosenior wouldn't be terrible but I feel we need to be a bit more ambitious.
This. Bored of Still tbh. After watching a lot of stuff on him a few weeks ago, summat about him doesn't sit right. Get the feeling he'd either bomb big time or have a modicum of success and drop us like a stone at the first opportunity elsewhere.
That's all fair enough mate, I'd agree with most of that. What's also fair is that some posters, only a few, state as fact that our current managerial recruitment is a 'disaster' and a 'shyte show'. Surely we won't know that until the new manager is announced. And, when we win games or do the right thing, such as the SOL upgrades, etc, there's never a single post. If they're so anti-Sunderland I really don't see the point of them posting on a Sunderland forum.
Yeah don't think Rosenior would be a terrible appointment more of a steady appointment, along lines of Neil and Mowbray. Then the focus would turn to recruitment, which has to be right this summer, no idea or buts.
Since KLD said the there was going to be an appointment imminently does that mean the new head coach is french?????
Agree with that mind. Just needs to be honest not slick- ‘we couldn’t get a player of the quality we wanted at the right price and didn’t want to waste money, hopefully next time’ as opposed to ‘the forwards we have are adaptable shapeshifters’. He’s really not helped himself talking bollocks.
I think Rosenior is the safe choice that won’t get anyone excited. I wouldn’t be against it. Jansen does feel like the ambitious appointment though. Watch it be neither
Agree. Going for a manager that was sacked by a team we expect to be in and around the same position as us, which is pushing play offs, isn’t exactly screaming ambition. Jansen looks decent like.
Which one has the potential not just to get us promoted but make a really good go of keeping us up if/when we get there? That would be the clincher for me. High possession football in the championship is one thing but it’s something else to be able to repeat it in the prem. From what I’ve read sounds more like Jansen as a fit but I gladly admit to knowing square root of FA compared to many on here.
Jansen would defo be a coup. The only reason I don’t have that opinion on Rosenior is because I’d totally understand if he bottled it year after year but last season was actually his first full season as a head coach and he’s not even 40 yet. So to me that gives me the reassurance of he has plenty potential to grow and be flexible with his ideas. I’m sure he will learn from that and if it isn’t with us I can see him getting another team into the playoffs next season
I actually disagree. I think Rosenior is a good coach and is smart and could have a really high ceiling. Getting him with some quality in the weak positions we have and we could take off.
Yeah, true mate. It probably comes across as focusing on anything bad and ignoring the considerable good that is going on. I suppose not everyone gets as excited / impressed about the SOL upgrades or the redevelopment of the city. Number one priority might be the 11 we put out for a match, the squad, the coaches and the other (good) stuff is there in the background.
Here's a cautionary tale to ponder relative to our pursuit of Still. One of the biggest clubs in the world have, in the last decade, appointed a series of sub-standard managers. They've just endured another sub-standard season. Their 'dead manager walking' has just been humiliated by watching his club openly chase and interview a replacement. This candidate has no PL experience and only a few seasons in the lower leagues. At which point the entire club was humiliated when he turned them down flat. So now they're in the close season with a manager who's either 'soon to be gone' or 'the right man for the job' Now that's what I call a disaster.
