https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/sunderland-managers-data-tony-mowbray-1892658 Pretty cool article about the data usage for the Neil and Mowbray appointments.
Jansen apart the supposted shortlist is absolutle shocking and will prove without a doubt this club has no ambition at all even the happy clappers could not deny it
Defend the way it has played out and the length of time it has taken? Probably not. If however we did throw the sink at Still and he turns us down there is nothing else we could have done there. Also these links may have been the alternate options from the start. Although certainly not as glamorous, we could be sat here next season looking back and thinking what an appointment we made. I'll get behind the team and the club and the more I read into Challinor it's only a matter of time before he steps up the leagues.
A club which gets crowds bigger than most of the Premier League and all of the Champo, with a young talented squad should be an easy sell. Other clubs aren't struggling to get their first choice. The question is how have KLD and Speakman turned us into on unattractive option.
But if we were targeting Still (which seems pretty definite now) and Jansen then we clearly are ambitious. That's where I'm struggling to reconcile that with any genuine interest in Robinson. P.s. the 'happy clapper' crack is the pits.
Obviously Jansen is the stand out and would be my preference. But Challinor would still be a good appointment I think - he's had nothing but success everywhere he's been, yes it's at a lower level but we were all happy to give Maric a chance and he's never managed anything above u19s! I do agree with the uproar about Robinson though, on the face of it he's done well with St Mirren but it just feels a bit Simon Grayson to me - uninspiring and will end in tears.
I dread to think of the fan uproar if they **** this appointment up here. If it's one of Challinor or Robinson, the backlash will be HUGE. To the point of it being nigh on impossible for either of them to ever succeed, like with Beale. So even appointing them in the first place will be pointless. Needs to be Jansen, Still, or someone else of a decent calibre. Club can't get this wrong, and I fear they're going to badly.
This thread was started when Mowbray was in charge and because folk wanted him gone. We might as just have it up permanently the way we go through coaches to be honest. It is depressing when only Moyes or Ross have managed 1 full season in the last decade. There is something wrong with how our club thinks about head coaches in my opinion. I was messaging a couple of footy mates about Rosenior this week. I really rate him. My mate said he thought Rosenior would be crazy to consider us because we dont give coaches any sort of chance. He actually compared us to Birmingham in our approach to coaches. I argued the toss but then realised he was probably right, at least as an outsider looking in, which is what most coaches and agents will be doing. I respect what looks to KLD standards, even if I think Still is a poor fit. I think he couls well land on a very good fit with Jansen and hope he does. If not though I dont think we are in any position to turn our noses up at the likes of Challinor, personally.
Well, surely that says don't create a backlash to give them a fighting a chance. Won't be either of them anyway.
