Thank you Os! Actually, I haven't really espoused any political views to any extent, unlike many on here who seem to have a wealth of information at their disposal. Thus saying, it takes oñe WUM to recognise another and I am deeply honoured to share this elevated status alongside you. Having said that, you are only fourth behind the seasoned professionals of Farage, Bunter and Trump!!
Last nights TV debate was a very underwhelming. Sunak persistently talking over Starmer, and Etchingham unwilling or unable to stop him. Not one mention of Wales, NI or Scotland - even when the football analogy question was asked, it got down to how Southgate`s boys were going to do.
There is polite name calling such as referring.to someone as a WUM or troll, and then calling some a f****** eejit which is very different. I think most people on here are suitably well versed in using irony, double meaning, hyperbole and metaphorical language to express their views and countering others, that they let themselves down and the argument when resorting to demeaning language.
I was a bit stumped by the fact that even when they got onto the topic of housing there was not one mention of 'rent' or 'renting'. Just talking about people living at home and/or owning homes. V odd.
I did not see the program but perhaps Sunak thinks he could win the debate by shouting down Starmer. Many moons ago, I did happen to see a "discussion" between Trump and Jeb Bush, both of whom held different views over migrants arriving in Florida. The winner of the "debate" was Bush, who smiled sardonically when Trump shouted him down.
I didn’t watch it, but I saw some clips and just find them both completely cringe. I hate the way politicians act like children. The sound bites, the lying etc. they’re all embarrassing. Whatever side of the political spectrum you fall, I think we can all agree that the calibre of politicians is absolutely dire across the board.
The current incumbents and their tory predecessors take lying corrupt criminal incompetence to a new level. They've buggered Britain from austerity via bexshit national self harm, covid corruption and mismanagement, Trussnomics to the Rwanda debacle. Led by donkeys indeed.
The real notable point from that is sub-20% for the Tories. That is definitely sub-100 seats territory
Yeah, at around 20% they could be in the 50-70 seat range, and the Lib Dems might well end up as the official opposition.
You're the one backing reform mate. Where do you think they're getting the votes from? We all know the cards on the table, no excuses.
I was wondering why Starmer did so little to shut Sunak down when he kept on repeating the £2000 tax rise lie and a lawyer on the James O’Brien phone in suggested a reason for him doing nothing. She called it a “lawyer trick”, as in if you know someone is lying you don’t respond to the lie in the hope that the liar will keep on repeating it, so that when the lie is exposed it hits harder. Judging by the impact today she may well have called it right and Starmer actually reeled Sunak in, with his refusal to respond at the time, until iirc the last few minutes of the debate.
