Let's see. powerful in the air, bullies defenders. Holds the ball up back to goal. Brings other players into the game. Scores from all sorts of positions and situations. Defends set pieces well. No tap ins from 3 yards though. Big downer that. Deal breaker.
Clingy, I know you dangled the bait hoping, perhaps knowing poor Masky would take a bite at what you dangled (conversation for another day), but Masky couldn’t resist pal! People of lesser intellect and brainpower resisted (i’m talking BFB, IB, sheep shagger Remote, ring licker Robbie, and the like) resisted. I’m just a fool and should rejoice in the finer things in life! Masky bollocks
I reckon it'll be a bit more than what we paid for him last time unfortunately. Then there's the question of whether he'd want to come back given his desire to play in the Prem a bit more. I'll be surprised if Ipswich aren't interested.
He enjoyed himself at Ipswich but now they're in the Prem I expect McKenna to look for better options up front (no disrespect to Moore). He joined Bournemouth when they were still in the Championship and helped take them up. He wasn't a huge success at Prem level with them to say the least and Iraola has since shipped him out on loan. He chose Ipswich and they went up - obviously not just because of him but he certainly helped. I think his niche is decent Championship. In other words he can make the difference at our level. He helped get Bournemouth up and has now done the same at Ipswich. If we've got any real ambitions, there's no reason why he can't do it again for us and get his hat trick of Prem promotions.
I couldn't agree more. His ambition to be a Prem player and his ability to be one are not necessarily aligned. However, he probably doesn't see it that way which is understandable and neither might lower prem managers. I think if he does come back to a Championship club his head could be turned by the likes of Leeds and Burnley. I'd love him to come back and be part of something big but I fear our progress might not be enough for him.
At 31 with a year on his contract and Bournemouth having 2 strikers ahead of him in the pecking order if he still has ambition he will want away. I don't think they would want much for him so why not us if VT has some loose change. In saying that the Canadian lad mentioned earlier is 24 and had a good season at a lesser Scottish Prem club. Could be a useful acquisition. Why not get both?
If they do sell Solanke, I can see Iraola replacing him in the starting lineup with someone other than Moore. Apart from the wages he'll pick up next season, Moore would be better off looking for a Championship club - why not us?
My impression of him was he takes a decent corner but was underwhelming when in possession plus he lacks that yard of pace which is pivotal. Also I was surprised he didn’t get himself into position to take pot shots as he did up north. Overall though it’s not clear what his best or preferred position is.
Another signing for the sake of it, rather than there was a plan that he fitted into. The fact Erol keeps chopping and changing his position suggests he doesn't know his best position or how he wants to use him. Another generalist rather than a specialist. Generalists are great in a squad, but you don't want a team full off them. Meite, Robinson, O'Dowda ( that one is a little unfair), Wintle, Turnbull. Probably one or two more. Colwill has been played at 10 and out wide. Sometimes to get the best out of them they need clear direction. This is how we play, this is your job, this is how you fit in, this is what I want from you. One generalist is OK if everyone else has a nailed on job.
It's unfair to blame individual players for poor or lacklustre displays when the whole side is not on the same wavelength. This season, the top 6 clubs played some lovely stuff because individual players were in tune with each other and properly "managed" from the touchline. It's also fair to say that they had better players overall than we had our disposal. The virtual season long absence of Ramsey and O'Dowda was a huge blow, but I'm convinced the chop and change approach to managing what we had didn't help the team overall and especially players such as Turnbull.
Spot on. Back to the whole being greater than the sum of the parts. Average players can look good when they are part of a well oiled machine. Good players can look average when things aren't aligned. DJ did it well. It's what we need from Erol. Round pegs, round holes. All pulling in the same direction.
Are Cardiff due any more money from Bournemouth for the transfer of Moore? If so perhaps it could be used towards his transfer in the other direction?
I doubt it. Might have worked last season but not now, 2 years down the road. Not impossible though. I guess you refer to stage payments rather than performance related as his success last season was with Ipswich - not part of our deal with Bournemouth.
I’d like to see him back as it would be a positive sign the club has ambition. Bulut publicly said he was his #1 target in January and it was rumoured to be a deal done & dusted & he’d be moving into his new house in Cardiff
