Lens were 7th in the top division in France and in Europe, we finished 16th in the 2nd tier, going to Lens over us does make some sense mate
If you’re going very simply off league positions then yes. But the state of the club is not good right now at all.
We also finished 6th the season before with pretty much the same squad. It won’t be looked at based off of one season
…not true. Also take out Amad and it’s a very ordinary squad. Choosing Lens over SAFC currently wouldn’t come as a surprise.
Would you rather Manage in England like you’ve always wanted to at a decent sized club and also be close to your girlfriend. Getting a better deal and pretty much all assurances you’ve asked for (IF TRUE) the club is sustainable and not in a load of debt Good potential to develop in the squad OR Go to Lens and play some games in the UEFA conference league. stay in France which is what you have said you didn’t want to do the club you’re at needs to sell £100m in assets to clear debt fans are protesting outside of the facilities because of the state of their club the league the club is in is struggling to secure tv rights which means more financial restrictions. Am I being delusional but surely that doesn’t look good bar the league position and a few games in the worst competition in Europe?
Post Beale and Dodds it would be welcomed but not convinced it would have been last summer or when Mowbray first left.
Both have their advantages. I think that's probably why the saga is dragging on and on and on and on and...
we really need a decision either way very soon my big worry is we are going to be left behind and we got so much needs doing in summer
Everything about our team is confidence based, I said it last season that ability would only take the team so far but confidence is the key. TM leaving (I agreed with by the way) and then MB coming in (Poor appointment at a bad time which I tried to support but found it difficult) had sapped all confidence out of the team along with the switch to a more defensive style (think Dodds has had more influence on this than most as he persisted with it throughout his stint). If KLD manages to pull this off it may well re-invigorate the squad and build back some of that youthful confidence that got us to a 6th place finish and with some clever acquisitions may see us become a dark horse for the automatics. If it is to be someone else then it needs to be an appointment with forward thinking ideas and IMO a more front foot high tempo approach and not another safe pair of hands or a tried and tested manager as they will not move us forward and may in fact have the totally opposite effect.
I think the only time you are not allowed to film in a public place is if it infringes on copyright law for example in a Cinema, I also believe they can stop filming at concerts and at sporting events if they believe it is for illegal streaming reasons.
We don't know they need to raise a 100m, its not like the press to sensationalise these things. There squad is probably pretty good if they've got into Europe and probably got some players to develop. The French League and Conference can probably attract a better TV deal than the EFL. Are teh fans protesting? there are probably fans kicking off outside the AoL some days. It takes less time to get to London to see his GF from Lens than it does from Sunderland. Its obviously not cut and dry either way but to suggest you see no reason why he'd go to Lens over us is a bit silly. We will be doing well to convince him Sunlun is a better job as all based upon potential and not actual position. the promise of jam tomorrow is a hard sell
The worst competition in Europe is a damn site better than anything we're likely to achieve for a very long time. He doesn't have to commit himself to Lens forever, but it's not a stretch to qualify for Champions League football from where they are or just to put himself in the shop window for the next tier of teams up. Lens may have debt, but they haven't been selling everyone in previous seasons and when they sell, they also replace them. The quality of their squad is far better than ours. As for his girlfriend, Lens is as close to London as Sunderland is. If you take a step back and think about it as a different Championship club rather than Sunderland, I doubt you'd find such a compelling case for him to choose the Championship over Conference League.
Absolutely nowt, I suspect the only people who know where Still will end up is his agent and Still himself.
Cracking post fella, not as sold on Still myself but you’re right in that we need to unite behind KLD.
You always seem to put quite some time into criticising Sunderland but usually apply some logic, I often agree with you. With this post, however, you're ignoring the owner having a press conference to spell out that they have to sell players and cut the wage bill. That's the press reporting a statement from the club, not sensationalising matters unlike yourself when you say, "there are probably fans kicking off outside the AoL some days." What's most significant for me is what Still himself recently said. "It’s just my place. I want to go home , confided to the coach. I've been abroad all my life and worked all my life in an environment that wasn't quite my own. And I just want to go home. [...] I would work for a Championship team without any problem. What I now understand is how important people are. And how important finding the right place will be to my career. Obviously the Premier League is every manager's ultimate dream [...] But if there is an ambitious Championship club, who wants to work in the right way, to be open and honest about things, and to really try to push to get somewhere, then I would love to do that." He may well go to Lens but it would go against all of that and the Lens supporters don't seem impressed with his 'appointment'.
