Could we make Europe this season? If so will it make a big difference?

I would love to get back into europe, but i fear we would struggle to cope with the size of our squad. if we got there i would do what spurs have and play the kids to keep the league form going.

could be a very good platform for your fergusons, goslings etc...

It is still too early to be talking of europe and I think that the best we can hope for is 7th place. This means that we will be relying on the top 4 teams winning the cups. Ashley would have to spend a considerable amount of cash to make sure that competing in europe did not have a detrimental effect on out league form.

Yeah, Ashley would certainly have to splash the cash! Europe could be the making of another downfall. I only want us to get into Europe when we are ready for it.

    Wouldnt wanna do an Ipswich

It would only be a good thing if fat lad invested the extra money europe would bring and get more players in..... i suspect he wouldnt bother and we would struggle like Stoke have.

That said it would raise our profile again, we have some good youngsters who would get more opportunities to get a run out but that needs to be balanced with what detrimental effect that could have on us in the league

Near enough every club that qualified for Europe over the last few years has spent big in an attempt to keep themselves in Europe, even Stoke broke the bank this summer. Of course there's exceptions like Birmingham for example.

Your owner tends to employ a zero-risk policy at your club. He will flat out refuse to invest in a squad capable of comfortably qualifying for Europe year on year. In my opinion you will qualify for the Europa League, but it will be to your own detriment just like Stoke; your domestic issues must be addressed first.

Mankini tries to play his first team in every game including ECL games and his superstars are on the verge of going out of the competition. He is clueless about squad rotation and getting a good blend of youth and experience into his side. He has physically exhausted his players by refusing to emulate the tried and tested method that our Fergie has employed to get to 3 CL Finals in the last 4 seasons. I know this has little to do with NUFC but if City do have the squad depth and still can't mount a serious assault on Europe, then you lot could be in trouble on every front if you do qualify as I expect.

Solution: Hope your owner get's a good offer to sell the club, once you're in an attractive position.

Would never knock it back. You'd need some serious investment if we did get there but we could easily take the cash and just do a Spurs and blood youngsters. If we get to the latter stages it would be a massive bonus either way so it would be a good grounding for the young players. Personally I still don't think we will qualify this season. At some stage our lack of depth will be exposed (barring us signing 3 or 4 in Jan), its the nature of the league. Very tough physically and eventually it breaks players, mentally or condition wise. I must admit though, the games against the Manchester sides have raised my expectations. Really surprised me on Saturday first half with the confidence with which we knocked it about and shifted their midfielders round. 2nd half was tough but the defence was good and we got a slice of luck. They were the two toughest games in the league, back to back and although we were 2nd best in both, I thought neither dominated us completely or threatened to rip us to shreds. Fergies assessment of the first half was bizarre, I thought first half was pretty even. Don't know if the stats back it up but I assume they probably only shaded first half possession but dominated 2nd.

I have seen somebody mention that we need cover for RM/LM. Who else would be happy with Matt Jarvis? He has lost his way a bit this season and Wolves could potentially get relegated. However he is still at a good age and due to him not playing as well, he wouldn't cost as much as he would have last summer. Lets not forget that he was strongly tipped for England last season as well and possibly got himself a cap at one point? I think he'd be a great signing.

From a purely selfish point of view I'd love to see European football back at SJP, I love midweek night games and its been a while since our last UEFA run. I honestly don't think we need a huge influx for a Europa League run, as much as I'd like to take it seriously and go for a trophy a I wouldn't have major issues with fringe players in the early stages. Just defensive and wing cover really based on a reasonably fit squad, plus a striker maybe if Lovenkrands goes. Any more than that and I'd be delighted.

    Raylor?

On the original question, I would be selfishly delighted to see us back on the Euro stage, more games with hopefully affordable tickets available for me and other non-season ticket holders to go and see! But at this stage with this squad, I worry it would be too much too soon, we need to steady our position in the league first and gradually add strength in depth. Besides, I really don't see us finishing high enough this season, i think Chelsea and Liverpool certainly and possibly Arsenal will finish above us, but I hope that we lead the 'chasing pack'!

If we pick up a few more gems from France then we'd be ready to go.

There are some truly terrible teams in the early stages of the EUROPA League where we could field Ferguson, Gosling, Abeid, Sammy, Shola, Williamson etc and have no trouble, resting our best players for the PL.

We're probably a full back, CB, winger and striker away from being able to comfortably cope with the demands of PL and European games.

Long way to go yet though.
