Cellino was a crazy guy and a good laugh. Totally out of his depth but at least he was genuine unlike Bates.
We've never been sold to a company with so much money and with a proven track record of ripping the heart out of football clubs, a business plan that they have not deviated from in 20 years. If RB do eventually take over, the club will probably start winning things, maybe even do well in Europe. But you won't even recognise the club as Leeds United. There will be a new generation of Red Bull Leeds fans who won't care about the club's identity or history, and neither will Red Bull. I might even be gone before it happens, but if I'm still around I will not be buying my grandkids scarves with the Red Bull logo on and the letters L-E-E-D-S in bright red letters.
The trouble is that you cannot compete without serious investment. Look at Newcastle, seriously rich owners but they can’t give the club the global exposure to increase revenue, which is required to meet P&S rules (it’s what Man City are being investigated over, that their owners invented companies with his own money as independent income streams and why it’s so complicated to investigate). Red Bull without doubt can bring in big money to the club through their global network and the 49s can do the same in America so the choice is do you sell your soul to the devil or remain mediocre for ever? You make a very valid point as we all get older, I don’t think the next generation care as much about tradition in the “success now” era and if the club are regularly winning the premier league and competing for the champions league when we’re all gone they won’t care if it’s RB Leeds or the Leeds United Red Bulls.
Too many people worried about what might happen IF this happens or that happens. It's not happening right now so why waste energy worrying about something that MIGHT happen at some point in the future. It might not happen too so why bother worrying about it.
Can't argue with the bulk of your statement, but if Red Bull get their claws into us then Leeds United as we know it will eventually cease to exist. At some point we (we? I mean the club they turn us into) will probably be champions of Europe for ten years straight but it won't be LUFC to me. It will be a zombie club. Anyway, on that note I'm off down the pub. Have a great weekend Leeds fans!
Sleepwalking into oblivion! They will do it to us if they get control, that is just a simple fact of how they do business.
The point is fans have no choice. You either get swallowed up like city and fill the stadium with wealthy plastic fans and compete at the top table or settle for being a yo-yo club fighting for survival in pl any time you get there
The key word is "if" they get control. They might never get control so I'm not wasting any energy on it right now. As Eire says, there's not much you can do about it anyway. As fir the immediate impact, it will help us this summer with balancing the books.
The rule about a brand name not being permitted in a team name also extends to the colour of the home shirt and badge. A club needs proof that the majority of fans approve, we can thank Hull City for that as the rules were recently expanded
Sadly, aren’t we all just wishing things were like they used to be? But now, I’m sounding like my mum and dad and, actually my grandparents now I think about it “you could leave your doors unlocked when I was growing up”…. Well, you could if you didn’t mind being robbed
Surely Burnley not wiilling for Roberts to go to a championship club is a plus for Leeds. Let's face it he played 15 games (shut it aski) and was injured a lot. The club need to recruit better /fitter and faster players. Why do leeds fans, seem to settle for who they know or wanting past players to come back.
